HI, I am trying to fix my computer. I thought I was done when all of a sudden, when I try to search via start menu or right click on start button, explorer.exe takes all cpu in taskmanager and I tracked a thread call shdocvw.dll (+0xd4a29) with process explorer that is the culprit. I looked up this dll and it is a windows file? The computer is xp sp3 and this only happens when I search. Also, the taskbar is disabled and all buttons on it as a result? If anyone has any experience with this sort of technical problem, your info will be invaluable. I have run ccleaner, symantec, avg, ad-aware. I will post a HijackThis log, if asked or instructed. I found some instructions on how to setup hijackthis and run in safe mode with hidden files, extentions, and os files SHOWN etc.. I am close to clean reinstall but would hate for it to come to that. It's so much better when you solve the problem instead of a desparete last resort lol. Just for some extra info, the last thing I did was use the search function to find a bunch of random .bmp files in the windows folder. I cut and pasted them into another folder for later deletion. Not sure where they all came from but definetily from c:\windows. They were all random .bmp files from past program downloads. On one .bmp file, it said it was "read only, r u sure you want to move?" and I did. Why would that do anything? When I was done, I decided to get rid of all the .log files via the search feature and bam, this problem started. I did have a start.inf trojan that someone contracted on my pc earlier and I don't think I removed it properly dangit.
Please help,
Thanks,
Panman

Hi panman
Welcome at GSFs.
I will post a HijackThis log, if asked or instructed. When you drop a posting in
HELP! Think you are Infected? what is needed? Btw. Have you read the top of this page about
Guidelines for Posting in This Forum ?
Otherwise PC related topic would have been the place if you're not willing to ask for a HJT log......

hi sentinel, should I post this somewheres else? Being new and all, it was a little difficult to navigate around the hundreds if not more, of different posting options, so i kinda just chose this one. Sounded like the right place lol. I did glance over the guidelines, but was eager to get help before my pc dies. Thanks for reply, oh and I was just letting anyone know if they were interested in helping, I would post a hjt log if needed. thanks

Hi
...little difficult to navigate around the hundreds...
Thats why I've pointed to the topic of this side. I do not know if you want a complete reinstall of your computer or getting help for a HJT log. Thats a decision which is up to you not to anyone else :)

So, just to be clear, better to end this post in "HELP! Think you are Infected?" and move it to " PC related topic "? and then specifically ask for a hijackthis expert to help? Better for potential tech support if they know I want them to analyze a HJT log file? Sorry for all the questions, its just that the chances of someone having encountered this same issue is unknown and I want to be in the right place and ask the right questions. What would you suggest if u were in my shoes?
