Hi

Hoping you can help me fix my son's laptop. I cannot even get I.E. to open to get on internet at the minute using his laptop. So I am posting his hi-jack this log from my computer after saving it to my external Hdd.

Also have done a malware scan and there are thousands of stuff found but cannot get rid of it and cannot get an update either when it is installed.

Hopefully some of this stuff can be sorted from safe mode from this log for me to continue to help him fix his laptop and sort out his problems. If whoever can help see's anything remotely suspisious in this log please just tell me to delete it.

I think the virus came from the dreaded limewire but that has since been taken off his laptop.

First:
Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.

• Make sure you are connected to the Internet.
• Double-click on Download_mbam-setup.exe to install the application. (If using Windows Vista, be sure to "Run As Administrator")
• When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings.
• When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:
  • Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
  • Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware
• Then click Finish.
• MBAM will automatically start and you will be asked to update the program before performing a scan. If an update is found, the program will automatically update itself. Press the OK button to close that box and continue.
• If you encounter any problems while downloading the updates, manually download them from here and just double-click on mbam-rules.exe to install.
• On the Scanner tab:
  • Make sure the "Perform Quick Acan" option is selected.
  • Then click on the Scan button.
• The next screen will ask you to select the drives to scan. Leave all the drives selected and click on the Start Scan button.
• The scan will begin and "Scan in progress" will show at the top. It may take some time to complete so please be patient.
• When the scan is finished, a message box will say "The scan completed successfully. Click 'Show Results' to display all objects found".
• Click OK to close the message box and continue with the removal process.
• Back at the main Scanner screen, click on the Show Results button to see a list of any malware that was found.
• Make sure that everything is checked, and click Remove Selected.
• When removal is completed, a log report will open in Notepad and you may be prompted to restart your computer. (see Note below)
• The log is automatically saved and can be viewed by clicking the Logs tab in MBAM.
• Copy and paste the contents of that report in your next reply and exit MBAM.

Note: If MBAM encounters a file that is difficult to remove, you will be presented with 1 of 2 prompts. Click OK to either and let MBAM proceed with the disinfection process. If asked to restart the computer, please do so immediately. Failure to reboot will prevent MBAM from removing all the malware.


Second:
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.

Double-click ATF-Cleaner.exe to run the program.
Under Main choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.

If you use Firefox browser

Click Firefox at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

If you use Opera browser

Click Opera at the top and choose: Select All
Click the Empty Selected button.
NOTE: If you would like to keep your saved passwords, please click No at the prompt.

Click Exit on the Main menu to close the program.

hi lophat i used malwarebytes but when i try to delete what is there the laptop crashes. I have also done the atf cleaner too as i have used the programs before and always use them on a regular basis on my own computer.

Also malwarebytes wouldn't let me update on the laptop saying it was blocked by firewall or not connected to internet even though i have already let the firewall know to accept updates from malwarebytes.

Keep getting the popup's all the time too.

I will download combofix and also try the above again and let you know how it gets on.

I dunno what he has done to the laptop but things are not looking good for it

Hi again lophat I did malware scan and deleted everything that was there when i finally got an update but then had to reboot the laptop so it could delete some things on reboot but now the laptop will not boot up it gets to showing the xp initiallizing stage then keeps trying to reboot all the time. I have tried rebooting the laptop in safe mode with the same results.

So now i guess the laptop is knackered as i cannot do anything with it now.

Unfortunnately it seems Windows has a few issues. While we could attempt to fix them, in view of the malware and its potential after effects, it would be best to re-install Windows and start over.
