I am unable to get beyond the Windows Start Up page (well, 9 times out of every 10 it fails - got lucky this time)
I have run Spybot & Ad-Aware but all they found were the usual harmless cookies.
However yesterday I got a warning from my firewall that mentioned Barrotes.849 - I cannot remember the full message but strangely it was mentioned in iolo/security mechanic 6/Barrotes.849.
Starting to think my registry may have been changed in some way.
Any help would be grateful appreciated.

I have found a way to access my PC - I'll try and describe it as best as I can.
As stated in my original post my PC freezes at the "Windows Starting Up" page. However I have that if I anticipate the moment just before my PC reaches the "Windows Starting Up" page and press the ENTER key I am shown the Windows Log On page with the message "The System Could Not Log You On. Make Sure Your User Name Is Correct" - by simply pressing the OK button on screen my PC boots up properly and I can use it.
Obviously I would rather not have to do this each time I power up my PC (because it is hit and miss whether or not I hit the ENTER key at the right moment) so if any help can be given I'd be grateful.
Also if this is a situation that cannot be resolved with your help please let me know. If the only option I have is to do a full re-install then thats what I'll do

You have two anti virus products providing real time protection (Steganos, AVG) and two firewall (Comodo, Online Armor).
More than one AV providing real time protection can cause slow downs and possible corruption. RUnning more than one firewall in just asking for trouble.
PIck one AV and one firewall, then remove the others via Add/Remove Programs.
Second:
Please download ATF Cleaner by Atribune.
For Technical Support, double-click the e-mail address located at the bottom of each menu.
Third:

Thanks for your help.
I have run the programmes as requested.
However Combofix didn't seem to perform any task - it loaded and performed a System Restore but that was it - all I got was the small blue screen with cursor flashing in top left hand corner for 5 minutes. Can you advise what to do next?
Also I only have one firewall running - I used to use Online armor but this week changed to Comodo. I deleted Online Armor soon after instaling Comodo and have checked Add or Remove Programs and it is definitely not listed.
Also Steganos is not an Anti-Virus program - it is Security Suite (no.7) for storing passports, file encryption, shredder, file manager.

Thanks for your help.
I have run the programmes as requested.
However Combofix didn't seem to perform any task - it loaded and performed a System Restore but that was it - all I got was the small blue screen with cursor flashing in top left hand corner for 5 minutes. Can you advise what to do next?
Also I only have one firewall running - I used to use Online armor but this week changed to Comodo. I deleted Online Armor soon after instaling Comodo and have checked Add or Remove Programs and it is definitely not listed.
Also Steganos is not an Anti-Virus program - it is Security Suite (no.7) for storing passports, file encryption, shredder, file manager.

Have tried running Combofix twice today (left PC alone for 30 minutes each time) and both times it got no further than "Completed Stage 2" then the program seemed to hang.
However I seem to have the PC booting up normally now. I reset my password as Computer Administrator and that seemed to do the trick.
If you feel there is still something that needs sorting please let me know - I'll log on to the site tomorrow evening and check.

Online Armor left a service in your registry and there was no was of knowing that the files had been deleted, even though HJT reported it as file missing. We'll rmeove the service in a bit.
First:
ComboFix should produce a log at C:\ComboFix.txt. If it is present, please include it in your next post. If not there, then let me know.
Second:
We no longer need ComboFix so it can be removed (make sure you checked for the log first)
Click Start, then click Run.
Enter into the command box that opens: combofix /u and then click OK.
Third:
We need to remove the Online Armor service...
Open a Command Prompt Window (Start -> Run -> cmd)
Enter the following commands: (then press 'Enter')
sc stop SvcOnlineArmor
sc delete SvcOnlineArmor
exit
Note: Its ok if the 'Stop' command fails.
