Hi, my CPU has been running at 100% for the last couple of days and I was wondering if this was due to it being infected with spyware/virus.

Please delete the version of HiJackThis.exe you have installed, then download the new version from here:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/th.../HJTInstall.exe

Double Click on the HJTInstall.exe file. It will be installed to the default location of C:\Program File\Trend Micro\HiJackThis\

Run HiJackThis, scan, save the log, then post the new log in this thread.

Your log is clean.

Check the Task Manager to see what process (or processes) are consuming the CPU cycles. It is normal for System Idle to consume a high percent. I'm interested in other programs.

The programs which are using a high amount of mem usage are:

Explorer.exe (about 33,000k)
msnmgr.exe (36,000k)
Iexplorer.exe (64,000k)
Vsmon.exe (29,000k)
svchost.exe (50,000k)
Vesmgr.exe (13,000k)

The problem is basically when i have a couple of web browsers open and Itunes plus one or two other programmes. This problem is only recent and the system was able to comfortably run the different applications up until a couple of days ago, so I was wondering if it was infected with spyware or something else, which it obviously isn't.

All you can do is watch the Task Manager when the computer is slow and see which process is consuming the highest percent (other than System Idle).

The amount of memory used is a guide, but pecentage of CPU use will pinpoint a process causing slowdowns.

Ok i'll continue to monitor that and if i notice anything unusual i'll come back to these boards.
