Reynor
Hey guys, it's been several months...but I'm back =\

Unfortunately, we seem to have run into some problems again... Random popups have once again begun appearing - this time of which the most prevalent is always titled "Internet Speed Monitor"

None of the programs that I have to help with such issues seem to detect the problem and/or keep it away. These programs include the following: CounterSpy (past free trial), avast! antivirus, Sunbelt Kerio Personal Firewall (past free trial), Uniblue Registry Booster, and Uniblue SpeedUpMyPC. I also frequently run the cleanup programs CCleaner and CleanUp!, which also fail to fix the problem.

Recently, even after being run a half hour previously, and noone using the computer in a half hour~ish span, CleanUp! finds and cleans over 500MB (typically closer to 1GB) worth of information from the computer. This seems strange to me, since most are in the temporary internet files folders...so obviously something is going crazy in the background without our knowledge.

The only other issue I feel i ought to bring up before the HiJackThis log is as follows: Every time I run ccleaner, for the last year+, it has always found and cleaned these two files

{C:\documents and settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\689211B7.TMP (193 bytes)}
and
{C:\documents and settings\HP_Administrator\Local Settings\Temp\CB82C842.TMP (127 bytes)}.

Many other items obviously appear in the dialog, as well, but these two aforementioned appear again and again after I clean them, if i run ccleaner within even a 5 second span... I don't know what the files are, or what they are for, but I thought it might at least help for it to be mentioned.

Anyways, sorry for the rather lengthy opening, but here is what ya need, the HiJackThis! log I just created.

Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.

The program will take longer to run, but will give us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.
Reynor

First:
Check Add/Remove Programs for QdrModule and uninstall the program if there is an entry for it. The next step will use HjIackThis to remove it and make sure the uninstaller (if there is one) got it all.

Second:
Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Press the 'Scan' button and when done check the following items in HijackThis:
O2 - BHO: BndShell3 BHO Class - {875A1348-7674-42aa-ADAC-B4F36A004A2D} - C:\Program Files\QdrDrive\QdrDrive8.dll

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [QdrModule9] "C:\Program Files\QdrModule\QdrModule9.exe"

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

While still in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
(Files specified without a full path will be located in C:\Windows\ or C:\Windows\System32\)
C:\Program Files\QdrModule\ <--delete entire folder,

*How to Boot into Safe mode:
http://www.computerhope.com/issues/chsafe.htm

**Show Hidden and System files and folders: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread. (Be sure that Word Wrap is turned off in Notepad)
Reynor
OK then...quick summary:

did not find Qdr references in add/remove programs window, proceeded to next step. --> used HJT to delete the entry for 02 - BHO: BndShell3 BH0 Class - {875A1348-7674-42aa-ADAC-B4F36A004A21 - C:\Program Files\QdrDrive\QdrDrive.dll

turned on show all hidden files, as well as the known file ext. and protected oper. sys. files. manually deleted the two Qdr folders that existed in C:\Program Files

did all of that in safe mode

Thanks again for all the help!

Since rebooting, I have yet to receive a popup, so I'm thinking that aspect might be contained for now. Anyways, here is my HJT logfile from after booting back in normal mode:

Off to bed for now...but I'll be sure to check again from my work computer in about 8-9 hours or so (whenever I can get up there) and see if there is anything else that you recommend. [I'm leaving this computer turned off completely until you tell me it all appears to be fixed, with the exception of booting up to proceed with your instructions each time] Thank you so much!

The HJT entries from my previous post are still there. I suspect a program providing protection restored them. Reboot in Safe Mode, then do the HJT step again.

At this point its just cosmetic since it appears that problem was solved.

Ok...I went through the safe mode steps again and it seems that in safe mode HJT was still cleared from the checkmarks I did before, but when rebooting in normal mode, HJT said the #04 entry was back. Either way, I cleared it once more and it seems to be contained this time. CleanUp! now stays well under a few MB after running it a few hours apart with no user activity on the computer, and the popups are gone once again. So I would imagine that this problem is fixed, thanks to you.

And once again I am here thanking you for an excellent job of helping me fix my computer...and I may be back later with a HJT this log from our work computer...since it seems to be having a few issues since the last set of trojans was found through counterspy and avast.

Thanks a bunch, once again, for all your help!
