Norton Anti-Virus tells me I have several viruses, like bootlog.exe and bootini.exe, but says it can't delete them. How do I remove them. Here is a copy of my HijackThis scan.

The files Norton is detecting are not in the HJT, but there is one bad file and some cleanup to do. We'll also check further.

First:
Open a Command Prompt Window (Start -> Run -> cmd)
Enter the following commands: (then press 'Enter')
sc stop LSaS_Server
sc delete LSaS_Server
exit

Note: Its ok if the 'Stop' command fails.


Second:
Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Please download SilentRunners from here:

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.
The program will take longer to run, but will give us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please download F-Secure Blacklight (blbeta.exe) and save to your C:\ drive.
1. Open a command window by going to Start > Run and typing: cmd
2. Copy/paste or type the following in the command window:

C:\blbeta.exe /expert

3. Hit "Enter" to start the program and then close the cmd box.
4. Accept the user agreement and click "Next".
5 Click "Scan".
6. After the scan is complete, click "Next", then "Exit". BlackLight will create a log in C:\ drive named "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" (the xxxxxxx will be the date and time of the scan).
7. The log will have a list of all items found. Do not choose to rename any yet! I want to see the log first because legitimate items can also be present...like "wbemtest.exe".
8. Exit Blacklight and post the contents of the log in your next reply.

Note: If you download Blacklight to your desktop, just double-click to run from there and it will create the "fsbl-xxxxxxx.log" on your desktop.

1. Now use Blacklight in exactly the same way as before, but when it shows the list of the items found, select each entry and choose to let Blacklite rename them by clicking the Rename button.
2. Next to each entry, "rename" should appear.
3. Click "Next".
4. Blacklight will give you a warning if you are sure. Click "Yes".
5. Then it will tell you: "Your computer will reboot now"
6. Click "Yes".

Here's all the info I've got. I need to warn you though that I was unable to boot up in Safe Mode, because it would freeze as it listed the program code ont the screen. When I used HijackThis to delete the files, I ended the process of explorer.exe through Crt+Alt+Delete. I'm not sure if that will help
