Good afternoon all. I seem to have quite the problem here. Good thing all of you seem to be so smart and helpful. I recieved an email last week, which I opened, and it had a exe file attached. I have a recently new computer, and (gasp) never activated my antivirus software. Anyways, it took control (slowly at first) of my computer, and wont let me go to certain websites, redirects me to others, and opens pop up windows at random. I have tried running hijackthis and deleting some things in windows safe mode, but that failed. I deleted some files thru the start/control panel/add remove files, but cant delete one called "BAR888". I will attach my hijack this file. thanks in advance.

This is quite the virus. I had to rename the hijackthis file, it would automatically shut the text file down on me.

I managed to get a logfile from hijackthis when I am logged in to windows normal mode, before the virus (?) shuts the program down. here it is. I also ran spybot. It found the following files,Which I disinfected.

Unzip HostsXpert to your desktop

Open up the HostsXpert program.

* Make sure that the "make hosts writable?" button in the upper right corner is enabled.
* Click back up Host files
* then click Restore orginal host files
* close program

1. Download this file - combofix.exe
2. Double click combofix.exe & follow the prompts.
3. When finished, it will produce a log for you. Post that log in your next reply please, along with a new HijackThis log.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Please download, install, and update AVG Anti-Spyware (formerly Ewido)

1. Load AVG Anti-Spyware and then click the Update tab at the top. Under Manual Update click Start update.
2. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful")
3. Click the settings tab, then click "apply all actions" and choose clean (quarantine)
4. Close AVG. Do not run it yet.

Please reboot your computer into Safe Mode. To boot into Safe Mode, please restart your computer. Tap F8 before Windows loads. Select Safe Mode on the screen that appears.

Please run HijackThis! and click "Scan." Place checks next to the following entries, if present:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\aldpmmqyle
C:\Program Files\?ssembly <---this folder might appear as Assembly, and will contain the file ?hkntfs.exe

• In Safe Mode, load AVG Anti-Spyware and click on the Scanner tab at the top and then click on Complete System Scan. This scan can take quite a while to run, so be prepared.
• AVG Anti-Spyware will list any infections found on the left hand side. When the scan has finished, it will automatically set the recommended action. Click the Apply all actions button. AVG Anti-Spyware will display "All actions have been applied" on the right hand side.
• Click on "Save Report", then "Save Report As". This will create a text file. Make sure you know where to find this file again (like on the Desktop).
• Restart back into Normal Mode.

In your reply, please post the report from AVG and a new HijackThis log. Please also let me know how your computer is running. :)

Hi Tea. Here is what happened/what I did...

First, I had to download the AVG anti spyware in safe mode. But my computer wouldnt find the upload site in safe mode. I went to normal mode, and updated it. Then I went back into safe mode. I scanned with HJT, the only entry that was present was the

R0-HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet explorer\Main,Start page = about:blank

the other two were not there.

I navigated to the folders you said, however the first, "C:\Windows\system32\aldpmmqyle" wasnt anywere to be found. I searched with the search engine, as well as hidden files. So I went on to the second. I found it with search, however it was in the directory "C:\Windows\system32", not the one you said. I didnt delete it.

I then ran the scan (in safe mode) with AVG. It found 4 tracker cookies.

The log file of AVG and HJT are attached.

My computer runs slowly in normal boot up mode. It still terminates any anti spyware program which i run, on its own. And it still blocks me from certain web sites.

Well that folder has to be there. It's showing up in all the logs, it's just being elusive. :furious:


1) Please download the Killbox.
Save it to the desktop and run it.

2) Select "Delete on Reboot", and then select "All files".

3) Copy the file name below to the clipboard by highlighting it and pressing Control-C:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\aldpmmqyle

4) Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

5) Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the Pending Operations prompt.

Let me know how that goes, and how the computer is running. Please run Silent Runners again and post the report.

Good day, Tea.

I did as you said, had to run the killbox program in safe mode. In normal mode, I could run it (after renaming it, if I left it named Killbox, it would mysteriously shut down) but it would not let me delete the program. I had to go into properties, unclick the make read only box, then do it (again only in safe mode). I think the virus ( or trojan, or whatever) is gone now, but I have a folder in my documents, which is named "!Killbox" which has the "LSASS and SOLD" files in it, but I cannot delete the folder, even with Killbox. Do I need to delete it, or what? Also, do you know what I may have been infected with?

Please go Here to run Panda's ActiveScan. http://www.pandasoftware.com/products/activescan.htm
Once you are on the Panda site click the Scan your PC button

A new window will open...click the Check Now button.
Enter your State/Providence
Enter your E-mail address and click send.
Select either Home user or Company.

Click the big Scan Now button

* If it wants to install an ActiveX component allow it
* It will start downloading the files it requires for the scan (Note: It may take a few minutes)

When the download is complete, click on My Computer to start the scan.

When the scan completes, if anything malicious is detected, click the See Report button, then Save report and save it to a convenient location (activescan.txt to desktop).

As far as what you had, Outerinfo (OIN) was probably the most annoying, but you did have a couple of tough trojans, which is why I want these extra scans. :)

Hey Tea. Yeah, still having problems with my PC. I cant do another scan from Panda, it just wont let me. Without buying the program, anyway. Maybe I should? Pop ups are still coming up on their own, and it seems that there are always two copies of deleted emails in my deleted box. I am quite worried. Thanks for all of your time!!

Okay, let's try this :

* Download Dr.Web CureIt to the desktop:
ftp://ftp.drweb.com/pub/drweb/cureit/drweb-cureit.exe

• Doubleclick the drweb-cureit.exe file and Allow to run the express scan
• This will scan the files currently running in memory and when something is found, click the yes button when it asks you if you want to cure it. This is only a short scan.
• Once the short scan has finished, mark the drives that you want to scan.
• Select all drives. A red dot shows which drives have been chosen.
• Click the green arrow at the right, and the scan will start.
• Click 'Yes to all' if it asks if you want to cure/move the file.
• When the scan has finished, look if you can click next icon next to the files found:
• If so, click it and then click the next icon right below and select Move incurable as you'll see in next image:
  
  This will move it to the %userprofile%\DoctorWeb\quarantaine-folder if it can't be cured. (this in case if we need samples)
• After selecting, in the Dr.Web CureIt menu on top, click file and choose save report list
• Save the report to your desktop. The report will be called DrWeb.csv
• Close Dr.Web Cureit.
• Reboot your computer!! Because it could be possible that files in use will be moved/deleted during reboot.
• After reboot, post the contents of the log from Dr.Web you saved previously, along with a new HijackThis log in your next reply.
