Hi. I hope you can help me. I have just detected a trojanspy using the Avast scanner version 4.7. I have isolated the file to the avast Chest.

In case you can help, the infected file is C:\FOUND:000\FILE1619.CHK
Malware name: Win32:Delf-FT[Trj]

There was one other file that Avast was unable to scan, maybe they are connected? It was C:\win98_ut\FD\QA_PLUS\DOS\CHKDSK.EXE\[Exec]

Here is my hijackthis log:

Thanks for your help,

Hi Linnie,

The Found.000 folder is a folder that got created during SCANDISK. You can delete that folder. Also empty the Recycle Bin. After all this rescan your system. Does it still find a virus?

Many files cannot be scanned by Anti-virus programs. Most of the time this is because they are in use or encrypted, etc. As CHKDSK is part of the Operating System I think it is not harmful. What program is in Win98_ut? It is not your Windows folder.

Your HijackThis log is incomplete. Please make sure you post the complete thing.

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked". Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

Hi. The new scan was clean. I deleted the infected file in the avast chest since it was unimportant. The file that wouldn't scan turned up again. You asked what was in the Win98_ut folder. There's a bunch of stuff, including FDD. I typed it wrong, it is FDD not FD. C:\win98_ut\FDD\QA_DOS\CHKDSK\

I have not fixed the hyjackthis because I don't understand what is wrong with the three things you pointed out. If it's important, let me know why and I'll fix it. Otherwise, thanks for your help. Seems my computer is now clean :)

The entries I gave are not affiliated with Yahoo, but are RedSheriff. one of the many spywares out there...
