Hi,

uhm.gif Having a few problems - for some reason my PC is (apparently) randomly rebooting. One consistent are in which this appears to happen is when I am halfway through scanning for viruses (with PC-Cillin 2006) or for Spyware (with Ewido).

Nothing in the log except for some cleanup. I want to check further and also check the disk itself.

First:
RUn Check Disk on drive C: (chkdsk C:) This will no fix anything but will spot any problems.

Second:
Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.

The program will take longer to run, but will give us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.
Mascon
OK,

CHKDSK ran and auto closed without highlighting any problems.

Silent Runners Log is:

"Silent Runners.vbs", revision 49, http://www.silentrunners.org/
Operating System: Windows XP SP2
Output limited to non-default values, except where indicated by "{++}"

Found one!

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste in the box below to a new text file.
Save it on your Desktop as fixme.reg

CODE
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer\Run]
"1"=-

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

THen reboot and delete the following file:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\service\explorer.exe

Try an AV scan and let me know the result.
Mascon
Thanks for that

Fixed the registry as instructed, but on rebooting was not able to find C:\WINDOWS\system32\service\explorer.exe (no 'service' folder visible - even file search didn't find it)

Ran AV successfully (Complete Scan), found the following:

Thanks. The file had probably been removed earlier, but I needed to be certain. The cookies are probbly a result of the sites you browse. You can remove them with your AV, or set your browser(s) to not accept cookies.

Now, unless there are issues outstanding that are not reflected in your logs, we are finished.
Mascon
Thanks LoPhatPhuud

System has remained stable now for approx 14 hours, with no undemanded reboots.

Keep up the good work! :)
