Full Version: Help with symptoms similar to sasser
Gladiator Security Forum > Malware Help Forum > HELP! Think you are Infected?

Hello,
I can usually solve most issues myself but this one has me stumped and I need some guidance. Symptoms are almost identical to the Sasser virus except I have XP sp2, and none of the fix-tools find anything. First message that pops up is ‘Spooler SubSystem App encountered a problem and needed to close’ followed by system shutdown with the message ‘The system process ‘C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe’ terminated unexpectedly with status code -1073741819. The system will now shutdown and restart.’ I have browsed this forum for clues but at this point I feel clueless. uhm.gif

PLease re-run HiJackThis again, but not in Safe Mode, and post the new log in this thread. Also, I would like a startup list per the following...

Please download SilentRunners from here:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip

Unzip it to the desktop and double-click on it.
Silent Runners will ask if you want to skip the supplementary search.
Please select 'No' to include them.

The program will take longer to run, but will give us more information.

If you get any kind of warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

When the scan is finished, a message will pop up and a logfile will have been created on the desktop.
The logfile is named 'Startup Programs' by default and will be located where the program is.

Please post the entire contents of this logfile for me to see.

Sorry for the incorrect log. The correct one is posted below. I could not get silentrunners to open, when I tried it came up with the message ‘WMI service not running’. I went into services and wmi showed it was started. I stopped and restarted it along with wmi driver extensions and wmi performance adapter just in case. Here is a fresh Hijack log in normal mode:

We will not need the Silent Runners log at this time. I was checking the MS KnowledgeBase for info on the error you are having. The most likely candidates would be 3rd party print drivers. That would include Fax drivers as well. Try uninstalling WinFax, reboot and see if the error is gone.

FYI, here are two KB articles for review:

THere are more and you can check them here: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?...=EN-US&FR=0

Search All Products and use the keywords 'Spooler SubSystem App encountered a problem and needed to close'

Let me know what happens.
