I have a computer that has suddenly started giving a lsass.exe System Error (indicates a revision number encountered or specified is not known by the service. It may be a more recent revision than the service is aware of) when booting up. The window only allows you to press OK then the computer re-boots back to the same message. I cannot get it to boot into safe mode.
I have tried booting to the windows CD and trying to repair windows without any success. I am also not able to boot back to a previous safe condition as it looks like system restore is not on.
I'm not sure if this is a virus or a windows error. The information I can see in google is often conflicting and for the most part not useful.
I would normally run a hiJackthis log but cannot get the computer to boot up. Can anyone suggest anything or point me to a solution.
I have spent the whole day trying to get a PEBuild boot disc together and finally managed to get the computer running from CD - but other than run ewido spyware scanner (only found some tracking cookies) and stinger.exe (which did not find anything) I can't get too much done. And the problem persists.
Please help!
System is a Dell Precision M60 running XP Professional - SP2 with latest updates installed.
