hello everyone
here is my problem.....
i have 1 gig maximum donwnload limit with my cable internet connection, I checked my

intetrnet usage and find out that someone downloaded 800 Mb (only download no upload)in 2

days, needless to say it wasn't me,now I am way over my limit, I hardly used my computer in

those days let alone downloaded anything
i have a cable connection at home and i am using wireless AP, I enabled WPA/PSK with TKIP

encryption, my SSID is also disabled, I am wondering if someone stole my internet connection

or I might have a virus, i did virus scan with symentic and found nothing, I called my

service provider the tech said either i have a virus that download automatically or my

wireless connectin might be hacked, if this is the case how can I find out, does anyone ever

heard of a problem such as this.....
I really don't know what to do at this point, can someone help?
thanks in advance
PS: I also have LIMEWIRE installed in my computer could that be a problem, I hardly use it

though

Hi astronat,

this is probably due to LimeWire. Once you use LimeWire, or other P2P programs, you open up your hard disc for people. They may have downloaded it.

I wouldn't use Limewire anyway. It is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use "Add/Remove Program" to remove it and any reference to LimeWire.
This is another article: http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm

1GB is very small by the way...

If you want to know if there is something on your hard disc that isn't supposed to be there follow these instructions. Download HijackThis.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/hijackthis.php
http://209.133.47.12/~merijn/files/HijackThis.exe
http://www.downloads.subratam.org/hijackthis.zip

If you are on Windows XP, extract the file. Do not just doubleclick on it! This opens HijackThis in a temporary folder. This would interfere with the possibility to make back-ups.

Unzip to a folder other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and click "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that and copy and paste its contents in this thread. When you post the log I will move this thread to HELP! Think you are Infected?.

Most of what it lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet. Someone will be along to tell you what steps to take after you post the contents of the scan results.
