Our desktop has slowed down and suspecting spyware (as usual!) I did a scan with Panda's ActiveScan. It reported multiple Virtumonde infections so I followed the forum instructions, I ran Spybot and AdAware and then ran the Vundofix program. Vundofix came up with zip - no infections were found and I cannot figure out how that can be possible. I turned off the anti-virus/firewall prog. and ran Hijack This. Hi Miriel,

I see that you've already downloaded, and presumably ran, Vundofix. Since I don't know when you did that I want you to do it again. Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop.

• Double-click VundoFix.exe to run it.
• Click the Scan for Vundo button.
• Once it's done scanning, click the Remove Vundo button.
• You will receive a prompt asking if you want to remove the files, click YES
• Once you click yes, your desktop will go blank as it starts removing Vundo.
• When completed, it will prompt that it will shutdown your computer, click OK.
• Turn your computer back on.
• Please post the contents of C:\vundofix.txt and a new HiJackThis log.

Update Java:

• Go to Start > Control Panel double-click on the Software icon > add/remove programs.
• Search in the list for all previous installed versions of Java. (J2SE Runtime Environment.... )
  
  It should have next icon next to it:
  Select it and click Remove.
• Then Download and install the newest version from here:
  http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

Ok... Then we'll explore other avenues... I know that these days Vundo is being kept under wraps by rootkits, so let's see if we have one to get rid off.

Download and Save Blacklight to your desktop:

Double-click blbeta.exe then accept the agreement, leave [X]scan through Windows Explorer checked, click > scan then > next

You'll see a list of all items found. There will also be a log on your desktop with the name fsbl.xxxxxxx.log (the xxxxxxx stand for numbers).

Copy and paste this log in your next reply. Don't choose the rename option yet! I want to see the log first, because legitimate items can also be present there, such as "wbemtest.exe"

that looks clean. Let's first get these files to the author of Vundofix, that way he can make a required changes to battle this beast as well.

Download Suspicious File Packer and extract the program to your desktop. Open the program and copy/paste the following list of files. When it has created the archive please upload it http://www.atribune.org/submit-malware.php:

• C:\WINDOWS\system32\jkhfe.dll

Good afternoon, Bobbi! I did as you instructed but the log created was totally blank. While it was executing, it came up with the following message for each .dll listed:

Missing entry: CreateMainProc

So I'm not sure if I did something wrong. BTW, thanks very much for taking the time to help me through this.

Hi Miriel,

You didn't do something wrong. The documentation said that this was the function to call to get them out of the Registry, but I see I have to use a different tactic.

The author of Vundofix is also looking in, and he suggested that you rename HijackThis.exe to something else and run it then. It might be that VUndo is looking for HijackThis and then filters itself out of what HijackThis reports... What I normally do in such a case is rename the file to something ludicrous so no one will have an idea that it is actually HijackThis. So rename it to bunny.exe, start it up and scan the system. Please post the log it produces.

Are you still having Virtumonde trouble? The log is clean. So it might be that the files found by Panda are simply leftovers from the infection. Just to be sure, can you go to Panda, do the scan and post the log from them?
