It's been a long time but back again for your help, my Mcalfie has detected throughout this evening that multipull emails are trying to be sent from outlook express to mailers that I dont know???, i am now unable to even access the programme as windows tells me it's being used elsewhere???? here's my log if you can help??

NOthing in the log to indicate where OUtlook Express is being loaded from. Do the following:

Download 'Autoruns' from here:
http://www.sysinternals.com/Utilities/Autoruns.html

Unzip to a folder and the double click on autoruns.exe

Wait until the program has finished running (the status line will show 'Ready')
Under the 'Options' menu, make sure that 'Include Empty Sections' is checked.
Wait again until ready.

Be sure the 'Everything' tab is selected.
Select 'File -> Save' and save the output file.

Copy the contents of the Autoruns text file and post its contents in this thread.

I don't see anything in the Autoruns log that would casue OUtlook Express to load.I did notice a terminal service is loading at startup through this entry in your registry: HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\Wds\rdpwd\StartupProgram

IF you are not aware of it, nor using it, then it needs to be removed.

Check that and advise, as well as any outstanding issues. I am going to do some research andf hope to have more information for my next post.

Run the program but could not find any taskdir programs, couple of really interesting points I have found on the way....... there was a guest accoount opened and running I have now looged back in as myself and I did not have a guest account before, and my outlook express server etc has been changed to an 000000004 account to which the NTl service has been wiped clean..

Therefore there is definatly something infecting my system, hope you can find what it is, cheers

Thought I would be clever and delete the 00000004 account from outlook express, another account was then registered 0000000005, now when I try to log into the account it says another instance of it is still running??? please log of windows and re-start tried this no luck.....

Sounds like your computer is a Zombie for an rogue mailer. We need to look for rootkits. In the meantime, use your firewall to block Outlook Express from sending email.

Second:
Once your system is clean, you need to update your JavaRuntime module(s) to the most current version [Version 5.0, Update 6]. You can download it directly from Sun at this link: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

Note: Be sure to remove all prior versions, using Add/Remove Programs, before you install the new one. Reboot after removal and prior to installation.

Ok first part has come up with [sc] control service failed 1062 this service has not been started so have not gone on to second and third requests until I await your responce

YOu can do the Second and Third steps without completing the first.

THe first one removes the services leftover by Rootkit Revealer. That error message is strange, but we can do it another way.

You need to start the services manager

Start -> Run -> services.msc (press 'Enter')

Scroll down the list of services in the right-hand pane, looking for those three from Sysinternals.

As you find each one, right click on it and select 'Properties'

Press the 'Stop' button in the Service Status area, if available
Change the Service Type to 'Disabled' by using hte pulldown menu.

WHen all three are done, exit.

If RootkitRevealer will not run or you cannot get a log from it then try this tool:

Download Blacklight Beta from this website:
http://www.f-secure.com/blacklight/try.shtml
Save it to your desktop and double click on the file.

Have it scan your computer but do not try to fix or delete anything identified by the tool, it may list legitimate programs.

If the scan does find anything then copy and paste the log back to this thread. The log should be on your desktop or root directory (C:\). This is the format for the log file name:
fsbl-<date-and-time>.log

If you have any trouble finding it do a search for fsbl*.log.
