I have scanned my computer with the latest updates of adaware and spybot and nothing has shown up. My computer is running slow all around. When I start-up it takes about 3 minutes until I can start to use programs instead of 30 seconds. The shut-down takes a long time too. I have hijack this and this is my log. Also when I shut down something pops up with "End Now" about Base 2 Panel Form.

I see nothing glaring in your log, but we'll check further.

Boot can take longer when programs access the internet (or attempt to), also if programs attempting to load are failing.

Check your Event logs for failure or errors. (Control Panels - Administrative Tools -> Event Viewer), and look in the Application and System logs. Post any pertinent information in this thread.

Would you please use HiJackThis to produce a startup list and post it here:
1. From HJT main screen, click 'Config' button
2. Click 'Misc Tools' button
3. Check both boxes to the right of 'Generate StartupList Log' button
4. Click 'Generate StartupList Log' button
5. Click 'Yes' in the next dialog
6. Save the log and post a copy in this thread.

I also ran disk defragmenter and that helped with the speed that programs load, but the start up and shut down times are the same.

Do this...

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste in the box below to a new text file.
Save it on your Desktop as fixme.reg


Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".


The BroderBund store program is the problem. I am not going to delete the folder, just disable the startup entry. You can keep it or delete it as you see fit.


Once you have done this, reboot and let me know if the performance has improved.

The start-up time improved a lot. It's still not what it used to be but it's under a minute. The shut down time took about 5 seconds so that was good. All the programs load quicker now and the computer doesn't freeze up while multi-tasking. Thanks and I appreciate what you guys do on these forums, this is at least the 3rd time you've helped me fix my computer.

You can try MSConfig (Start -> Run -> msconfig) to see what is starting at boot, and what really needs to be starting.

For those you want to turn off, first check the program preferences to see if there is an option to run at Startup that can be turned off.
