I have had an issue with the pop up WINFIXER for about a month now, and i have not been able to get it to go away for good.

Today i have done the following:

Windows Update
Ad-Aware
*found VIRTUMOND E
-removed
Spybot
*found 4 FUNWEB files
-can NOT remove even after restart
Uninstalled all old versions of Java
Installed new Java ver 5.0 update5
Updated hijackthis to v 1.99.0.1

Even after all this, i come back to this site to post my log and WINFIXER pops up yet again!!!

To use the F8 key to start Windows XP in Safe mode
Restart the computer.
Some computers have a progress bar that refers to the word BIOS. Others may not let you know what is happening.
As soon as the BIOS loads, begin tapping the F8 key on your keyboard. Do so until the Windows Advanced Options menu appears.
If you begin tapping the F8 key too soon, some computers display a "keyboard error" message. If this happens, restart the computer and try again.
Using the arrow keys on the keyboard, select Safe mode and then press Enter.

Please download VundoFix.exe to your desktop. Here's a link:

Double-click VundoFix.exe to extract the files
This will create a VundoFix folder on your desktop.
After the files are extracted, please restart your computer into Safe Mode.

Once in safe mode open the VundoFix folder and doubleclick on KillVundo.bat

A command window will open and it should look like this:

After you have fixed these items, close Hijackthis.

The fix will tell you to shutdown using the Power button. Hold in your power button until the computer shuts down. Wait about 15 seconds and then restart the computer into regular windows.

Chkdsk may run. This is normal. It will take a few minutes and is checking your file system because of the Bad Shutdown we caused.

Allow them to clean

Panda will have the option to create a log afer the scan has finished. Click the See Report button. Then click the save Report button. It will be saved under the name activescan.txt Do that and post that log into your next reply here.


Run hijackthis and post the new log and the vundofix.txt file from the vundofix folder into as well.

Okay i have done everything listed, the only problem i ran into was:

Are the popups gone now?

Okay first off...THank you for explaining how to do this all in such an easy manner. I have no idea what most of these things do or mean, but by following your directions it is working.

I deleted the suggested items in huijackthis.
I deleted the files and folders ( i searched for cpbrkpie.ocx but couldnt find it so am assuming it is gone)
I dowloaded and ran silentrunners

Oh and YES the POPUPS are GONE......YIPPEE! LOL

You're welcome. This can be intimidating, but you are doing a good job.

We generally have people also uninstall Viewpoint Manager using Add Remove Programs.

A firewall is not like other protection. A firewall's purpose is to keep an intruder from gaining access to your system. There are Trojans who scan for open ports and then try to get into your system. That's inbound traffic.

Then for outbound traffic, it prevents unauthorized programs from sending information out to the internet. It is not a 100% guarantee you'll be safe, but closing the various holes is a start.

You're welcome. Yes. Any 016 can be deleted. Go ahead on those. Uninstall Yahoo pager if you have an entry for it in Add Remove Programs. The 04 can be disabled for it.


The windows Firewall will protect you from inbound traffic only. Anything trying to get out will not be prevented. This is not a good thing and it is strongly recommended that you install a software firewall as well to prevent unauthorized outbound traffic. After you instrall the other Firewall, then you need to disable the windows Firewall.


For Vundofix, just delete the vundofix folder you created and the installer.

You can safely delete silentrunners.vbs and the log it created.

Once you have rebooted a time or two, be sure everything is in working order. It is time to flush your system restore points. Once you do that you will not be able to correct any problems you may have now by going back to a point before today.


After something like this it is a good idea to Flush the Restore Points and start fresh.
To flush the XP system Restore Points.

Go to Start>Run and type msconfig Press enter.

When msconfig opens, click the Launch System Restore Button.
On the next page, click the System Restore Settings Link on the left.

Check the box labeled Turn off System restore.


Reboot. Go back in and Turn System Restore Back on. A new Restore Point will be created.
