Hi fabian,

I see that you don't have Hijackthis in a permanent folder. This needs to be done before we "fix" any entries in Hijackthis.
Please download Mosaic1's Move_hijackthis.zip from Here

Choose "Open" from the dialog box.
When the zip opens, you'll see a file named Move hijackthis.vbs in the folder.
Double click on Move hijackthis.vbs to run it.

If you get a warning about a malicious script please ignore that and allow this to run, it is not harmful.

When the script has finished running, it will start Hijackthis from its new location:
C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\hijackthis.exe


After you close Hijackthis, the next time you want to run it either go to C:\Program Files\Hijackthis
[or]
Click Start >Run and type hijackthis and press "enter".

Please download the trial version of Spy Sweeper from Here
Install it using the Standard Install option. (You will be asked for your e-mail address, it is safe to give it. If you receive alerts from your firewall, allow all activities for Spy Sweeper)
You will be prompted to check for updated definitions, please do so.
(This may take several minutes)

Click on "Options > Sweep Options" and check "Sweep all Folders on Selected drives". Check "Local Disc C".
Under "What to Sweep", check every box.

Click on Sweep and allow it to fully scan your system.

When the sweep has finished, click "Remove". Click "Select All" and then "Next".

From 'Results', select the "Session Log" tab.
Click Save to File and save the log somewhere convenient.

Exit Spy Sweeper.

Copy and paste the log into this thread, along with a new HJT log.

That looks good. Are you having any problems?
Let's just check one other log.....

Please get Find It NT-2K-XP.zip.
After you download it, unzip the contents of Find It NT-2K-XP.zip to a convenient location (your desktop).
Double-click on Find.bat to run it. When the command window first opens, it will say "File not found". Ignore that and let it continue to run until it finishes. It will search your computer for malicious files. It may take it a few minutes. It will then open an Output.txt file when it completes.

Copy and paste the contents of output.txt here. Once that's done, close the text file and then press any key and the batch file will end.

The output.txt file does not launch....Any idea why?
The Internet Explorer problem seems to have been fixed.....Its just abit slower....
Any tips as to how to prevent future attacks? Your help much appreciated. Thanx!

You're welcome.

Sometimes it takes awhile for Find.bat to run.
If the output.txt didn't launch, it (Find.bat ) also saves the output.txt in the Find It NT-2K-XP folder.
If it's not there either, that means the 'scan' didn't finish...

Try it again please.

Please download Shadowwar and OSC (2 experts), L2mfix from one of these two locations:

Save the file to your desktop and double click l2mfix.exe. Click the Install button to extract the files and follow the prompts, then open the newly added l2mfix folder on your desktop. Double click l2mfix.bat and select option #1 for Run Find Log by typing 1 and then pressing enter. This will scan your computer and it may appear nothing is happening, then, after a minute or 2, notepad will open with a log. Copy the contents of that log and paste it into this thread.

IMPORTANT: Do NOT run option #2 OR any other files in the l2mfix folder until you are asked to do so!

If you receive, while running option #1, an error similar like: ''C:\windows\system32\cmd.exe
C:\windows\system32\autoexec.nt the system file is not suitable for running ms-dos and microsoft windows applications. choose close to terminate the application.."...then please use option 5 or the web page link in the l2mfix folder to solve this error condition. do not run the fix portion without fixing this first.

What site(s) do you get that 'warning' at?

Please download, install, and update the free version of Ewido trojan scanner:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/

When installing, under "Additional Options" uncheck "Install background guard" and "Install scan via context menu".
When you run ewido for the first time, you will get a warning "Database could not be found!". Click OK.
From the main ewido screen, click on update in the left menu, then click the Start update button.
After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display "Update successful").

Then, reboot to Safe mode (tap F8 while restarting).

Run ewido, click on the Scanner button in the left menu, then click on the Start button. This scan can take quite a while to run.
If ewido finds anything, it will pop up a notification. You can select "clean" and check the boxes "Perform action with all infections" and "Create encrypted backup" before clicking on OK.
When the scan finishes, click on "Save Report". This will create a text file. Please then paste the contents of the text file to you next reply.
After you reboot normally, also post a new HJT log.

Please follow the steps above to put it in your Program Files.

Open Hijackthis, click Scan, then put a check next to the following entries:

Now Close all open Windows and browsers (have only HJT open) and click "Fix Checked".

Then reboot.

Let it scan your system for files to remove.
Make sure Temporary Files, Temporary Internet Files, and Recycle Bin are the only things checked.
Click "OK" to remove them.
Click "Yes" to confirm the deletion.

Then please download DelDomains.inf , made by Winhelp2002.- Right-click and select: Save Target As

Note: This will remove all entries in the "Trusted Zone" and "Ranges" also.

Note, if you use SpywareBlaster and or IESpyad, it will be necessary to re-install the protection both provide. For SpywareBlaster, run the program and 're-enable all protection'. For IESpyad, run the batch file and reinstall the protection.

Here are some more suggestions.....


If you're not having any problems, then here are some suggestions to clean/protect your PC:
(Some may be redundant, so only use those that apply...)

I recommend that you get AdAware SE
Install The Program and Run it. Make Sure You Click the "Check for Updates" Button before starting a scan.
Do a scan with AdAware and Remove Everything it suggests.

Then, also get Spybot: Search and Destroy
Check for Updates first, download ALL Updates and Do a Scan.
When finished, make sure ALL RED items have been ticked, and click the "Fix Selected Problems" Button.

Keep them updated, and run them periodically.

Then click Start | Run (type) cleanmgr
Select the following:
1) Temporary Internet Files
2) Recycle Bin
3) Temporary Files

When completed Reboot.

Also go to Windows Update to keep up on all the latest security patches that apply to your PC.
Check Windows' Update site frequently, as new patches come out often. You don't need to install all the updates offered, but ALWAYS get the latest security updates available.

Then, it is not an option these days to be on the internet without and Updated Anti-Virus. If you have one, check it for updates frequently (or set it to "Auto" update). If you don't have one, or can't afford one, a good free one to use is AVG .

Just as it is important to have an updated Anti-virus, it's equally important to have a Firewall these days. Again, if you can't afford one, this is a good free one:

Then I recommend you clean out your System Restore
Doing this will remove all your restore points, and any infections that might be hanging in there.

Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives".
Click Apply.
Click Yes to do this.
Click OK.
Then Restart your computer.

After you have restarted, turn System Restore back on:
Click Start.
Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Uncheck the "Turn off System Restore" or "Turn off System Restore on all drives" check box.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Then create a new restore point once you have System Restore back on.
To create a new System Restore Point, click Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore.
When the System Restore Utility opens, click "Create a Restore Point" then click Next.
Enter a name for this Restore Point, and click Create.
