Hi. Today the pc (win 2000, avast + firefox) got a prob. Avast segnaled a viral infection while the boss (I wasn't at office; he said me via phone) was surfing; he scanned, found many stuff (dunno what precisely; he's ignorant about pc stuff......), erased 'em, but after restart, firefox icon on taskbar desappeared, and appeared on the desktop; but he wasn't able to fire it up.

Any exe's now won't start; they give errors. Tried to install some remedies, but the pc won't start the exe's (even msie, dxdiag and system resources won't start). And there's a recurring blip in background.

What happens? How to get rid of this problem?

Can you be more specific about the problems you get when running an exe. We will have to deal with that first before we can try to get your computer back in business.
