Hi, I seemed to have lost my old account os ive made a new one (sorry!)

Basically, if i use Windows media player 9 or 10 whenever i try to view a .wmv or any other specific media file type i get a "wm has encountered an error", ive checked the internet top to bottom (most common fix is "regsvr32 C:\Windows\system32\wmpui.dll
" didnt work) and had no luck. :(

Heres my log, if anyone could help id appreciate it lots. :)

Thanks. :)

Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Check the following items in HijackThis.
(note: If any R* items do not appear in Safe Mode, re-run HiJackThis in Normal Mode and remove them after you finish removing these items.)
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [UpdReg] C:\WINDOWS\UpdReg.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft DirectX] PDSched.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Microsoft Services] lsrv.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [WSSAConfiguration] wmmon32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nekpwctl] c:\windows\system32\nekpwctl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Microsoft DirectX] PDSched.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [180ClientStubInstall] "C:\DOCUME~1\Home\LOCALS~1\Temp\nst35.tmp"

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

While still in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
(Files specified without a full path will be located in C:\Windows\ or C:\Windows\System32\)
PDSched.exe
lsrv.exe
wmmon32.exe
c:\windows\system32\nekpwctl.exe
C:\DOCUME~1\Home\LOCALS~1\Temp\nst35.tmp"

*How to Boot into Safe mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...001052409420406
**Show Hidden and System files and folders: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Your last log was clean.

Does the Windows Media Player issue still exists?

If so, try installing new codecs.

You can download them from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsme...ecdownload.aspx

Unfortunately it still has the same error. :(

I have just updated to Windows Media player 10, downloaded the codec package and it still has the same error....

Mpegs play ok and for some reason WMV wont play at all?

Also, when i try to view clips via a browser i get a similar message rather it says Internet Explorer has an error. Same with Firefox?

Thanks for your help, it really is appreciated. :)

Can you supply more information on the error.

WHen you get the error message, there is a link to show the contents of the error reports. Please post that in this thread.

I also tried to look here, unfotunately i found nothing?

Let me know if you need anymore information.

Thanks again!

Thanks. :)

I cannot find any information on the problem in a briewf survey of the MS Knowledge. Since wmplayer will play some files but not wmv, it may be another corrupt file.

Best solution is to send the problem to MS and let them advise.

Ive spent hours and hours trying to find the cause of this myself, guess its time to get microsoft on the case. Thank you for all your help. At least my pc is clean!
