Lately my computer has been doing weird random things. It has also slowed down a lot. I don't know much about computers so I thought I would give this a try. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanx!

Is the number of processes I have running causing my computer to run slow? I dont know if you can help with that or can suggest a place where I can go to try and get the number of processes down. Im sorry in advance if questions like this are not allowed in here.

I forgot to add that I usually have 55-60 processes running.
LoPhatPhuud
THe number of processes can be a factor depending on what they are and how much of the CPU the consume. Fifty to sixty is not unusual. Check the percentage of the CPU used by System Idle. It should be normally in excess of 90%.

ALso, post a startup log per thiese instructions:
Would you please use HiJackThis to produces startup list and post it here:
1. From HJT main screen, click 'Config' button
2. Click 'Misc Tools' button
3. Check both boxes to the right of 'Generate StartupList Log' button
4. Click 'Generate StartupList Log' button
5. Click 'Yes' in the next dialog
6. Save the log and post a copy in this thread.

The percentage of CPU used by System Idle was up and down from 86-99%. My brother has checked that before and both times it was in the low 70s.

Here is the startup log.

Can anyone check my startup log to see if there is anything wrong? It is posted above. Im not sure if it was just forgotten or if it is ok.
LoPhatPhuud
Sorry, I did not see the email notification on the log.

The startup is clean too.

Cleaning temporary files and folders plus defragmenting the drive may help.

A very important step to cleaning out adware or a virus is to clear temporary files.

Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

It would also be a good idea to clear your Internet Cookies.
These directions are for Internet Explorer.
Click Tools along the top of Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options
On the General Tab press Delete Cookies.

Your temporary files are now cleared.
Perform this action periodically to keep your computer running at peak performance
