Hi,
Last night AVG identified Trojan Horse Dropper.Small.22.AW in a file Ati2mdxx.exe, on my computer in c:\windows\system32. It sent it to the virus vault, but ive not tried to delete it yet, wondering if its a necessary system file.
Ive switched off System Restore, emptied all Tmp internet files, cookies etc and updated and run HJThis, Adaware, CWShredder and SpybotS&D.
Ive also just enabled ALL in System Configuration and run HJThis again. I feel i have a few items on my system that shouldnt be there; for example:
cdaEngine0400 (WildTangent)
ViewPoint Media Player ?
Motive?
Wise Installation Wizard?
Xing Shared?
and possibly others.
When im running Housecall Trendmicro, i get to about 90,353 files checked, then my processor runs at 95-100% and everything seems to stop. So ive not been able to complete that online virus scan.
Anyway heres my HJThis LOG. Id really appreciate some advice on what to do next... :)

Yes. And AVG may deny you access. If so you can disable AVG for a very short time to do that.
In systray Launch AVG Control Center.
Click Properties. Uncheck Scan Program files. See if you can move the file back and then have it scanned.
Turn AVG back on. Next warning on that file, press the continue button.
Let me know what the Scan tells you.

I went to the AVG vault, and clicked to have the file restored, which it did, but remains in the vault (why, i dont know), and i went to the System32 folder and yes it was back there. Ive scanned the said file on its own and also the whole folder 'system32', with ewido, housecall/trendmicro and then again with AVG. They all said no virus was found!! Now whats that about? Why would AVG identify it last night as a trojan now today say it is ok?
The file in question is listed back in the System32 folder, yet it still remains in the AVG virus vault. What should i do now?
I did the initial scan last night with AVG because my system seemed quite sluggish. It uses a XP2100+ Athlon processor and over 700mb of Samsung RAM.
Btw, do you think my HJThis log is ok?

I would uninstall Wild Tangent and Logitech's Desktop Messenger.
Also uninstall Viewpoint.

Ive checked the dllcache folder and the Atimdxx.exe file doesnt seem to be in there, but it is in the c:\windows\system32 folder. Maybe as you say it was a bad AVG definition that they corrected. Anyway, as you say my HJThis Log is ok, so i guess things are fine.

IF you have uninstalled Wild Tangent it's folder can be removed. Ifnot, look in add remove programs and see if it is listed. If so uninstall it. Whichever, do then remove its folder.
This can be fixed using hijackthis. It's not a big deal. We usually recommend it though.

We all have different skill levels. Some people just have you fix all search and home entries. Since you know this is your ISP and you want to keep this entry, it is not a problem and your choice to do so.
As to your Startups, some would also have you fix in hijackthis or use MSConfig to prevent some of the others from starting up. (The updaters, whose tasks you can do manually.)

You can fix that. It's just the search setting. But if you go back to reset to defaults, it will be probably be right back. It's the default set by your ISP. You can reset it manually if you like.
Click the search Icon on the IE Toolbar. When the panel opens click customize at the top. This will bring up a new page. Make your selection.
