Full Version: sorry- LOG HERE! very slow & popups
Gladiator Security Forum > Malware Help Forum > HELP! Think you are Infected?

Hi-

My comp has been functioning very slow the past couple days (getting progressively worse), and I have had a few popup ads. The spyware removal tools and Nornton say I'm clean... but I don't believe them! :-)

Also, one of my email programs (yahoo) has been sending malicious emails to a couple people I know (w/ the "re: thanks" subject line, and then a nasty attachment). Again, Nornton is turning up nothing.

Oh, all of my programs and Windows (bleh) are up to date.

The hijack log is attached... thanks SO MUCH for your time and assistance.

-Abbie

Your log is clean.

On the emails supposedly from your Yahoo account, have you had the recipient verify the headers? It is possible the return address is spoofed and someone with your address in the address book has a trojan.

To be safe, let check for hidden 'goodies'

Please download the following Zip archive:
http://www.silentrunners.org/Silent%20Runners.zip

Unzip the archive to your desktop and double click on the VBS file.
(If your AntiVirus alerts, allow the script to run.

Once finished, the script will save a Notepad document to your Desktop.

Copy and paste the contents of that text file in this thread.

That looked ok...

Try cleaning the temp files and folders then defrag.

Download and install the disk cleanup utility called Cleanup!
Links:
http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
http://www.hijackthislogs.com/dl/CleanUp312.exe

Cleanup! will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders ( a common hiding place). You may also regain a massive amount of disk space.

Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial93.html

Run the disk cleanup utility called Cleanup! that you have already downloaded and installed

Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.

Then reboot into normal mode to let it clean out the remaining files.
