Hi,

I impulsively installed Messenger Plus 3 against my instincts. I made sure to reject the "sponsor" which is adware from Lop.com

I've read and posted at Wilders--see the end of this 3 page thread: http://www.wilderssecurity.com/showthread....11&page=1&pp=25 (I'm "forestflyer") so you can see that my homepage got changed, and who knows what-all.

I did the steps recommended here: http://chooseknowledge.com/How-to-uninstal...senger-Plus.htm and I don't see any problems, but I realize the malware may still be clinging to my computer. I'd like to nuke it. When I do a search for "messenger plus" now, I still have a residual folders on my C drive with sound plug-ins from MP.

As you can see, I haven't installed sp2. I'm almost ready to, but I want to do it right as it seems to cause so many problems. http://tech2.nytimes.com/mem/technology/te...75AC0A9629C8B63
I'm as fearful of sp2 screwing up my program access as I am of all the horror stories I'm hearing about spyware, e.g. http://tech2.nytimes.com/mem/technology/te...751C1A9629C8B63

I learned a bunch today just from reading at sites like this one, enough to make me scared and want to put the proper prophylactics in place. I've been lucky enough to have had a clean, fast, problem-free computer the past 2 years, and I want to keep it that way. But it has slowed down a bit, and sometimes I'll click on something and it hangs, and I wonder what's in the startup and what unnecessary programs are running in the background. Plus I've been warned that Lop puts a lot of junk on your hard drive and it may still be there...

Anyhow, here's my log.

Thanks for your help!!

I am reading your log and will be back in a bit.

In researching this program I came up with a couple of results.

C:\Program Files\SAM\SAM.exe

What is it please and did you install it on purpose?
forestflyer

I am not going to talk you into anything, but SP2 is a must have now.

You say it hangs whne you click. What hangs and where are you clicking? In IE or windows explorer, right click, clicking on a link.......

Because you had LOP and to be thorough, post a startuplist please. In Hijackthis press the Config Button
Click Misc Tools
Check both boxes next to the Generate StartupList log and then click the generate startuplist log button.

Paste the contents into your next reply here.

I am closing this post due to the fact that this person went to another Board and never responded to my help. He is now working over there.
