First:
I recommend you use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Messenger Plus. While the program itself contains no spyware/malware, many systems using it eventually end up with LOP and other exploits infecting the computer. In fact, one of the optional programs you can install along with MP3 is LOP!!!

Second:
I suggest you remove Logitech Backweb using Add/Remove Programs. It serves no useful purpose beyond providing update checks which you can do manually. It does, howver, expose your computer to potential infeciton.

Third:
Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Check the following items in HijackThis.
(note: If any R* items do not appear in Safe Mode, re-run HiJackThis in Normal Mode and remove them after you finish removing these items.)

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Hey there. Thanks for the help.. I've followed exactly what you wanted me to do. This is what I got:

I deleted messenger 3 plus already.

I couldnt find Logitech Backweb inside add/remove programs, all i can see is Logitech Desktop messsenger, logitech IM video companion, logitech imagestudio and logitech print services.

I've located my hijackthis file inside C:\program files\
I ran hijacthis in safe mode and i couldnt find the follwing things

O2 - BHO: (no name) - ...etc..

04 - HKLM\..\RUN: [messsengerplus3] <--- this didnt appear probably because I deleted it?

04 - HKLM\..\RUN: [DASH CLOSE FALW GLOBAL]...

Afterwards you told me to delete the following files inside C drives Windows:

32 soap.exe <---succeed

Bike Style.exe <---failure (i can only find one file similar to this one inside C:\windows\Prefetch Bike Style.exe-160DC479.pf

Utilbin.dll <---failure (this pop up came up saying that I am still using the file.) and my virus scan keeps on saying that file is infected with the backdoor.d virus. I've disabled my antivirus already.

Ok, below is my most recent log.

Sorry, the post notification slipped by without my noticing.

Please copy the text in the box below to Notepad and save it to your desktop as reginfo.bat.
CODE
regedit /e reginfo.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify"
start notepad.exe reginfo.txt
exit

Double-click on the reginfo.bat file, and it will run and create a text document on your desktop which will open in Notepad.

Copy and paste the contents of that entire file in this thread.

First:
Reboot into Safe Mode.

Launch Notepad.
Copy/paste the text in the box below into a new text file.
Save it as fixme.reg on your Desktop

CODE
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify\utilbin]

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.

You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".

Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Reboot back to Normal Mode.

Second:
Delete the following folder
C:\WINDOWS\addins\ <-- delete entire folder

Last:
Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.
zenigame211
Hi there, Ive followed exactly what you told me to do. However, I am unable to delete the addin folder inside C drive Windows. It says I am using the Utilbin.dll file.

Is there something wrong?
LoPhatPhuud
First:
Download Killbox from here: http://www.downloads.subratam.org/KillBox.zip
or from here: http://www.atribune.org/downloads/KillBox.exe

Reboot in Safe Mode

This will take a little bit to do so keep track and dont miss any files.

Open Killbox, click the option 'Delete on Reboot'

Select the following list of file name(s) and copy to the clipboard (ctrl-c):

C:\WINDOWS\addins\utilbin.dll"

From the 'File' menu in KillBox, select 'Paste from Clipboard'
Click the red X, to the far right of the Address Bar
Press 'Yes' to the message box that comes up
Press 'Yes' to the next box asking you to reboot.

If your computer does not automatically reboot, then close Killbox and restart your computer.

Second:
Please copy the text in the box below to Notepad and save it to your desktop as reginfo.bat.
CODE
regedit /e reginfo.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\Notify"
start notepad.exe reginfo.txt
exit

Double-click on the reginfo.bat file, and it will run and create a text document on your desktop which will open in Notepad.

Copy and paste the contents of that entire file in this thread.
zenigame211
Hi there, I have tried to delete the file or even the entire folder using the program u asked me to. however i am still unable to delete it. it is still inside the folder. Do i have to disable system restore before doing this?
In the above message u told me to copy the file from clipboard then past it inside killbox. I couldnt do it. the only way i did it was to click browse then locate the file. I assume its the same as the message box came out then asked me to reboot.

Heres my reginfo, i think it looks the same as the previous one...

Almost the same, but not quite. The utilbin.dll entry in your log should be gone. Now to find out why you cannot delete it.

First:
Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Second:
Download the attached zip file (multi.zip)

Extract the Folder it contains to a convenient place. That folder is named multi.

Close all but one Internet Explorer Window.

Open that folder and double click on multi.bat

This will produce and open a file named log.txt
Copy the contents into your next reply. If it is too long, then attach it instead.

THanks to Mosaic1 and Dvk01, I know whtat his one is and how to remove it. Most definitely a nasty one.

Please download Process Explorer by Systernals from HERE

Also download KillBox by Option^Explicit from HERE

Then boot up in SAFE MODE

the rest of this fix must be done in safe mode.

Unzip Process Explorer and double click on procexp.exe

In the top section of the Process Exlporer screen double click on winlogon.exe to bring up the winlogon.exe properties screen. Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you see this screen click on each instance of binpc.dll once and then click the kill button.

After you have killed all of the utilbin.dll's under winlogon click OK.

also look for any .ini or ,bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well

Next double click on explorer.exe and again click once on each instance of utilbin.dll then click the kill button.

also look for any .ini or ,bak files with either the same name or the file name in reverse & kill them as well

Click on the Threads tab at the top.

Once you have done that click OK again.

Next run HijackThis and place a check beside each of the following.

At last, your system is clean and free of spyware! Want to keep it that way?

Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

1. Visit Windows Update:
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and Internet Explorer. This includes SP1 and SP2 if you use Windows XP. The first defense against infection is a properly patched Operating System.
a. Windows Update: http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

2. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:
Select Internet Options from the Control Panels, or from Internet Explorer (Tools -> Internet Options)
Press 'default level', then OK
Now press "Custom Level."

In the ActiveX controls and plug-ins section set these options:
'Download singed ActiveX controls' - Prompt
'Download unsigned ActiveX controls' - Disable
'Initialize and script ActiveX controls not maked as safe'- Disable
All other options accept the default

3. Download and install the following free programs
a. SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
b. IE/Spyad: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm
c. BHODemon: http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm

4. Install Spyware Detection and Removal Programs:
You may also want to consider installing one of the following:
a. Microsoft AntiSpyware: http://www.microsoft.com/athome/security/s...re/default.mspx
NOTE: MS AntiSpyware only runs on Windows 2000, XP, and 2003.
b. Spybot S&D: http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download
c. AdAware: http://www.lavasoft.de/

Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware. I recommend and use Micosoft AntiSpyware.

If you use, or plan on using, additional spyware/malware detection and/or removal programs, please check Items 8 and 9.

5. Install 'Spoofstick"
Spoofstick is a simple browser extension that helps users detect spoofed (fake) websites. This extension is free and installs in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
a. http://www.corestreet.com/spoofstick

6. Reset System Restore
If you are using Windows ME or Windows XP, please reset your System Restore. See Windows help for information.

7. Clean Temporary Files and Folders
Download and install the disk cleanup utility called Cleanup! from here:
http://cleanup.stevengould.org/
http://www.hijackthislogs.com/dl/CleanUp312.exe

Cleanup! will get rid of any malware which may be hiding in your temp folders (a common hiding place). You may also regain a massive amount of disk space.
Here is a tutorial which describes its usage:
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/tutorial93.html

Run the disk cleanup utility called Cleanup! that you have already downloaded and installed
Check the custom settings to your liking under options, but be sure to delete temporary files and temporary internet files for all user profiles. Also, cleanout the prefetch folder and the recycle bin.
Then reboot into normal mode to let it clean out the remaining files.

8. Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware
Before using or purchasing any Spyware/Malware protection/removal program, always check the Rogue/Suspect Spyware List. It will save you a lot of grief, as well as money if you are thinking of purchasing. Here is the link: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

9. Anti-Spyware Programs Compared
Want to know just how effective your anti-spyware program is? Wonder how well any of the "rogue" programs listed above work? Check this link for an independent comparison of several anti-spyware programs: http://www.spywarewarrior.com/asw-test-guide.htm

10. Alternate Browser
Consider using an alternate browser as your default. I recommend and use Firefox as my primary browser. It is still necessary to keep Internet Explorer current and protected in order to use Windows Update.

For more information about Spyware, the tools available, and other informative material, including information on how you may have been infected in the first place, please check out this link: http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/index...?showtopic=9857

"It is your responsibility to read and adhere to the End User Licensing Agreement (EULA) of all software and services mentioned."

Good luck, and thanks for coming to our forums for help with your security and malware issues.

hi there again,
thank you for your help.
I am using spyeware doctor now.. You think that will be okay?!? or should I download the ones you recommand??

Also I have one question which is not really related to this topic. I've got Norton Antivirus 2005 and it's in Chinese version. However, the computer I have doesn't support chinese (bought in UK). I've downloaded some chinese software to read chinese, but I am unable to read chinese off the bars and lbuttons when I am tryin to install it.
For example, it tells me to read the terms and conditions when i try to install and click 'I agree'. I can read the terms and conditions in chinese BUT i cannot read the 'I agree' or 'next' button in chinese (even the header on top of the page). Do you actually get what I mean?! I really hope you can help me This is one of my last questions...
Cheers,

THe recommendations we offer are our opinion. Spyware Doctor is a fine product. We try to offer choices and many people have more than one installed, although only one providing real time protection.

As for NAV2005 in Chinese, unless you run Chinese as your main language (which you apparently don't), then get an AV in English. AVG and Avast both of free, AV's with real time protection. The other choice is to get a Chinese version of Windows.
This is a "lo-fi" version of our main content. To view the full version with more information, formatting and images, please click here.
