My notebook likes to disconnect me on a regular basis. It will also demand a three or four attempt to connect to NetZero, my dialup ISP.

Your problem sound more like an issue with your phone line. Your log so no show anything adverse. You may want to check with Netzero to see if they have a facility that you can use to run a modem/phone line test.
