I am hoping you all can help me.
I was searching the internet this past Saturday for a Win2000 version of Seagate's Backup Exec to make my Seagate STT8000A tape drive work again after upgrading from Win95. Well, you guessed it, something jumped onto my computer. I had just installed a free version of ZoneAlarm 5.5 a few days ago to test it out. Well, to make a long story short, I started to see repeated requests for inernet access from buddy.exe and pacis.exe, plus a popup that kept hijacking my google page (called popupseraches). I tried searching for and deleting these files bu when I did they kept coming back. I may have deleted a couple of non-bad files in that process, notably exp.exp and wintask.exe that when I reboot I get messages that say these programs "have generated errors and will be closed by windows. You will need to restart the program. An error log is being created." I just click OK to go forward.
Anyway, I don't do much forum looking but happened onto this one. I read CalamityJane's 28 Jan 2004 post and read the required posts and downloaded, installed, updated, and ran about every one of the various free antispyware programs she mentioned. I finally got thru all of the suggestions on to Hijack This and ran that a few minutes ago. I am posting it below in the hope that you all can help me determine whether more "cleaning" is needed or not. Thanks!
