Help please - think I am infected. Can connect to internet when I first switch on but all slows down and connections to sites fail. I will not be able to write much more because it will not let me send it - sorry

Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'C:\Program Files\Hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode

since logging this I have tried to renew antivirus software, and couldn't and firewall (and could) from ez - I have had problems with the av as I say and actually have problems getting my pc to load up at all - it stays on the windows screen for ages until I press reset tyhen I have to use last good configuration or let it restart normally - even then it sometimes does not load. I have e-mailed ca to ask why the av software will not load.

Do you have any ideas please.

Your log is clean and unfortunately, there is not much more I can do.

You can try clearing uot your temp files and folders, then defrag, but I doubt that will solve the problem.

A very important step to cleaning out adware or a virus is to clear temporary files.

Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.


It would also be a good idea to clear your Internet Cookies.
These directions are for Internet Explorer.
Click Tools along the top of Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options
On the General Tab press Delete Cookies.

Your temporary files are now cleared.
Perform this action periodically to keep your computer running at peak performance
