Full Version: Sudden slow down,
Gladiator Security Forum > Malware Help Forum > HELP! Think you are Infected?
yetanotherpunter
I returned to my PC yesterday (it had been left on for a couple of hours) and it was far slower then i am used to it being. I restarted it, and it seemed fine but then slowed again. I then ran spybot, adaware, and a virus scan, all to no avail. I figued it may have been heat, so i turned the PC off overnight and then re arranged my video cards so they were not so close to one another. Again no avail. THe puzling thing is that when it is in its most slowthfull periods the most CPUU time is devted to idle system processes. :( I am not quite sure how else to proceed. Please do take a look and see if you can shead any light on the situation.

Your log is clean,

I recommend you use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Messenger Plus. While the program itself contains no spyware/malware, many systems using it eventually end up with LOP and other exploits infecting the computer. In fact, one of the optional programs you can install along with MP3 is LOP!!!

A very important step to cleaning out adware or a virus is to clear temporary files.

Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

It would also be a good idea to clear your Internet Cookies.
These directions are for Internet Explorer.
Click Tools along the top of Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options
On the General Tab press Delete Cookies.

Your temporary files are now cleared.
Perform this action periodically to keep your computer running at peak performance
