Ok...I hope I'm doing this properly. I am having surf problems so I have to post when the page will load for me. (Websites are not loading properly)

I thought I had removed the trouble since this afternoon all seemed to be working well again. Tonight the trouble started again. I can't surf anywhere once this worm starts (I have one shot to reach one website and that's it after that no page will load).

I turned off system restore (had to do it via the registry because XP wouldn't let me turn it off in computer properties.) I then deleted the infected files. Updated my PC-Cillin and rebooted. I even ran a tool over at Symantec called W32.Gobot removal tool which did remove some problems. I have scanned with every spy ware program I can think of (Ad aware Personal being one of them).

I don't know what else to do so I'm posting my hijackfile here. If anyone can help me out I'd appreciate it. I'm not a huge techie so type slow! Thank you.

Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

7. Clean Temporary Files and Folders
Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)
You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the bottom of the fly out window. On the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.

Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin

Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.

8. Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware

10. Alternate Browser
Consider using an alternate browser as your default. I recommend and use Firefox as my primary browser. It is still necessary to keep Internet Explorer current and protected in order to use Windows Update.

Not sure if anyone is reading this thread but I took the advice of the admin and downloaded Firefox, it's excellent so if you felt hesitant to try it out don't! :thumb:

Me again...I didn't know if I should tack this on to the posts from before or make a new thread. I was here the other day and had help (Excellent help, I might add) which improved things and thought the trouble was fixed but my virus checker is still reporting that this worm is in my system files.

I believe it's also auto shutting down my system when it wants to as that has happened a few times now. My virus checker reports it but doesn't get rid of it and no files are listed as infected.

I ran hijack again if that is what you need for info...here is the log.

Where does you AV say the infection is located? And what file name does it report?

It doesn't report any files that is why I'm very confused. It scans 'system files' (I can't tell which one it is scanning) and then a window pops up saying I have this worm.

All it tells me is this:
Trojan Cleanup Service
Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security has detected a Trojan horse program and performed the action specified.

Virus name: WORM_AGOBOT.DG
Action result: Clean unsuccessful

I tried what was suggested by the company (Trend Micro) which was to delete registry keys with "sys78.exe" but I don't have those keys. I also downloaded their cleanup for this file but it also reported that it was not cleaned from the system.

I am all up to date at Windows as well.

I don't know if this helps or makes a difference or not but I turned off the system restore again. After that I did a scan and now it is not finding this worm.

Any clue what the deal is?

Makes a lot of sense, which was why I wanted to know where is was located. PC-cillin is unable ot remove any infection in the system restore are. Detect yes, fix no!

When you reset the restore area, you effectivley delete the old one and create a new one. This the trojan was flushed from your system.

Sorry if this is a stupid question but can I turn on restore now?

I had restore off the last time I removed the worm and then turned it back on when things were clean but that was when I was told I had this new variation of the worm.
