Hiya everybody, im back once more to you lovely people. Ive had trouble with i-search. Every time i started up my pc i had spywareguard telling me i had 6 attempted changes to my browser etc, i always restored my old values.

Ive ran adaware SE personal which picked up stuff and removed it.

Also ran spybot search & destroy which picked up cool web stuff and removed it

Ran AVG 6.0

Ran panda online virus check (love this one)

Ran lockdown trojan scanner (picked up nothing)

I have a2 guard and spyware blaster and spyware guard all running

(all these have latest updates done)

I noticed one of your pinned posts was iSearch infection!!, How to Check your Hosts File

so i checked it and removed the following

213.239.0.226 - Read our board rules -spider.com
213.239.0.226 www.- Read our board rules -spider.com

i also have xoft spy but only used it once as i heard bad reports about it (can you verify this for me please)

As you can see i was on a site getting a - Read our board rules - for a programme which is where i seem to have got the i-search from

I hold my hands up and admit to hating paying for programmes :s

I have installed hijackthis 199.0 from one of your pinned posts and ran it with hidden files showing. Can you have a quick look for me please and see if there is anything there that shouldnt be.

( i know i have msn polygamy patch which is picked up every time by adaware but need to use this for my work, i always have 4 messengers running at same time)

Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer,SearchURL = http://www.i--search.com/ie/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.i--search.com/ie/
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,CustomizeSearch = about:blank
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://www.i--search.com/ie/

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

Reboot in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
C:/WINDOWS/pcsearch.reg

*How to Boot into Safe mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...001052409420406
**Show Hidden and System files and folders
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode.

HiJackThis version 199.0 is now available.
If you do not already have it installed, download it from here:
http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-328.html
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Then run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

As you install the New AVG7 it will also then do a process to uninstall the old Version 6..and one nice thing about this new version is the ability to scan in the safe mode.

Wave.gif

I suggest you do this now..

*End of Support for AVG 6.0
Grisoft announces the end of support for AVG version 6.0 effective on December 31, 2004 for technical reasons. This version has been available since 1999. It's structure does not allow for further improvements planned for version 7 nor improvements of detection techniques expected to come in the future.

End of support means we will no longer provide program updates or Virus Database updates for version 6.0 and therefore, within days, this version will not protect against new virus outbreaks!

Current AVG 6.0 users should upgrade to AVG 7.0. Information on upgrading to version 7.0 can be found at http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_upgrade.php.
- October 25, 2004 -

You can also download the free AVG 7 version here

Hi Hunter, many thanks for that information. I have upgraded to AVG7 and ran scan, and it picked up a trojan horse dialer 15.F and also Downloader.Dyfica.3.F
Both been removed ahah.gif

Many thanks once again for all your great help on this forum, Dont know what i'd do without you all to fall back on.
