I upated my pc-cillin internet security 2005 with the latest virus pattern n scanned my entire hard disk ....it removed a lot of worms.....but this worm DOS AGOBOT.GEN keeps on reappearing whenever i close the STANDALONE.EXE in the taskmanager....the infected file is c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts.....again the STANDALONE.EXE reappears in the taskmanger.
When i try to scan the system in safe mode.....it doesnt scans.....it says some antivirus program or other security programs are conflicting.....but i have only one antivirus.....pc-cillin internet security suite 2005......
How to solve this problem???please help....

I ran online Trojan scan.....it didnt detect any trojan worm....
Then i rebooted in safe mode and viewed all hidden files......i couldnt find any file in red colour....

then i ran ad-aware se it detected certain things its log is here

Who says that hosts is infected? Trend Micro?

Run HijackThis. Click on "Config...", "Misc Tools", "Open ADS Spy...". Click on "Scan", and on "Save log..." to save what it finds. Pleaser post the resulting log here.

Deleted the file standalone.exe in the safe mode.....
Done a ADS spy scan.....it didnt detect anything......

Before this the file standalone.exe would occupy 70% of cpu usage.....
now the file is not in the task manager and the system is faster as before....

This log is clean!

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.

Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.

This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and following the prompts. If you are running Windows XP get updated to SP-2
