User with a slow system, Have run the usual spybot and adaware and am still receiving an error message at startup that schwizex.exe failed to load or some such nonsense. Do I need to remove it?

Hi Carrieant,

I see nothing in your log about schwizex.exe.

Run HijackThis. Click on "Config...", "Misc Tools". Check "List also minor sections (full)" and "List empty sections (complete)". Click on "Generate StartupList log". Answer "Yes" to the question and Notepad will open with text in it. Please post this text.
Maybe that will explain something.

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

This item is considered to be a resource hog that is not needed and it may be worthwhile to fix it with HijackThis. You will still be able to start it manually if you need it.

You have Microsoft's Find Fast running on your program and while a legitimate program, it is a resource hog. It is usually the cause of your computer getting really slow or even freezing for several seconds while it is indexing. Find fast neither finds things any better or faster than other Windows searches. You will notice system improvement by disabling this one. After fixing with Hijackthis, go into the "FindFast"-icon in the Control Panel and choose the "Index \ Close and Stop" menu option.

You're running HijackThis from the desktop, that's a no-no as well. Please follow my earlier instructions.

I don't see anything strange in this as well. Maybe I should have askd from the start, but what is the exact message you receive? This would say what the reason is it can't load

Sorry about that! >_< I moved HiJack This to its own folder, but still had it on the desktop and used the wrong one. Problem fixed!

Anyway, the error that comes up at startup is:

SCHWIZEX.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows. You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

Maybe it's not an infection and just a legitimate program gone awry? I dunno.

This could mean many things... Did this happen just after you changed something? Have you tried reinstalling the program?

I just happened to notice it while working at this users computer. He hadn't mentioned it. I made no changes to the program, I wasn't aware of the existence of a Schiwzex.exe until this happened. Is this something I can reinstall off the OS disk?

Schwizex is part of ConfigSafe. I guess you bought that application.

That's as far as I can go. I don't know the program, I've heard of it but that's all. If you Google ConfigSafe or Schwizex you probably can find out more.

That's plenty. My main concern was that it wasn't some sort of malware residue. Clearly it's not so I will attend to it on my own!
