Norton 2005 install unsuccessful; required technician on phone and hours to remove all Symantec products, then clean install. No joy. Process repeated multiply, finally worked and errors began. Wordpad woud not open at all. All Office socftware, SPSS, and anything else opened with an error message saying the .exe file could not be found.

Did a complete uninstall of 2005 and reinstalled 2004 (now running 2004). Sam problems continued plus e-mails started sending with blank messages. I checked the sent messages and most were actually blank - my messages disappeared on send - but some had messages still there.

Have followed your instructions, ran adware, eliminated all the threats (they are only quaranteened? Can I get rid of them all? How?

Ran Hijackthis and will include log below. Noted that Wordpad now works and all software is opening normally. Problems seem to be fixed but would appreciate two things from you:

1. Looking at the log, is there anything else I need to be concerned about/remove? If so, how?
2. Should I do a clean uninstall on Norton 2004 (45 minutes worth) and then reinstall 2005? Is it worth the problems? Will a virus/worm install again?

Open "Add/Remove Programs" in the Control Panel. Select the following items:

• My Search Bar
• MyWay Speed Bar
• My Web Search Bar
• Fun Web Products Easy Installer

and click "Remove" for each of them.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name. If there are more than one, please report them back and do not delete!

Delete the following folders in red (it could be that they are deleted already):

C:\Program Files\\MYWEBS~1
