Hi, I have spent a few days trying :angry: to sort this out, but to no avail, Norton wouldn't discuss it because Adware isn't a Virus! Anyhow, I think I have got close to getting rid of it using Hijack but; firstly can never get rid of;

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=9

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINNT\System32\m61co4fkxkpb1u0.dll

And this one changes to a different name;

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: k83un2pflry3hhll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll

Also Ad-aware.se seems to drop off scanning my Autocad files (I left it running all last night). I also ran Spybot ok and Spysweeper.

I really would appreciate some help;

Hi davidyacht,

You might want to save this page on your favorites, so you can find it again when you return. You can also click on your name and click on "Find All Posts" to find your thread.

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there.

Download Killbox by Option^Explicit. Extract it from the zip file then double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Click on "Delete on Reboot", in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, enter c:\WINNT\System32\k83un2pflry3hhll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll and click on the button with the white cross in a red circle. You will get a question "File will be Deleted on Next Reboot, Process & Reboot now?", answer "Yes". Let Killbox do it's work.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?

Show hidden files. How do I show hidden files?

Delete the following files in red (it could be that they are deleted already):

C:\WINNT\System32\m61co4fkxkpb1u0.dll
C:\WINNT\System32\lz7vdelphythd.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\David Greening\Application Data\rpib.exe
c:\ied_s7m.cab
c:\x.cab

Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

Hi, thanks for the prompt response, have seemed to get rid of some of the nasties, but not all.

This one I tried to delete from Windows Explorer, but I got an "access denied" window;

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {467FAEB2-5F5B-4c81-BAE0-2A4752CA7F4E} - C:\WINNT\System32\5626K1~1.DLL

This one changes name after I have deleted it in Kill Box and re-boot

O20 - AppInit_DLLs: y4frzddrbyxs.dll.dll.dll.dll

I still get the Swap.x home page.

I would still appreciate advice on the next step.

Hi davidyacht,

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindDLL.bat and save it on your Desktop.

CODE
dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\*.dll.dll > BadDLL.txt
notepad BadDLL.txt

Locate FindDLL.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here.

This one I tried to delete from Windows Explorer, but I got an "access denied" window;

Did you restart in safe mode?

Use KillBox on C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://win-eto.com/hp.htm?id=9

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?

Show hidden files. How do I show hidden files?

Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name. If there are more than one, please report them back and do not delete!

Delete the following files in red (it could be that they are deleted already):

C:\WINNT\System32\5626K1~1.DLL
C:\WINNT\System32\lz7vdelphythd.exe

Restart your computer and post a new log in this thread.

Hi Bobbi,

Thanks for all your help,

The print out was "C:\Documents and Settings\David Greening\Desktop.dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\*.dll.dll.DadDLL.txt
The system cannot find the path specified"

Should it have been C:\WINNT\System32? In this context?

I have been rebooting in Safe Mode after using KillBox and checking the HijackThis Boxes.

Please find the attached logfile, still with 5 suspect lines:-

I have been rebooting in Safe Mode after using KillBox and checking the HijackThis Boxes.
I think that's the problem why it doesn't work. Always work in Normal mode unless told to do it in Safe Mode.

Before we continue I'd like to see the result from the txt file.

Hi Bobbi,

Please find the followiing report.

Hi Bobbi,

I really am trying to follow your instructions, at least we appear to have got rid of the files deleted in Killbox; This is the current log from the BadDLL.txt

Volume in drive C is Local Disk
Volume Serial Number is 581F-0E21

The C:\WINNT\System32\grhu2i2.... line came up "this file could not be deleted" but since it doesn't show on the above, I think I might have double deleted it.

However the eto.com stuff is still on the log. I did notice that there was only one http://win-eto.com/ line before I logged on to access the web, now there are three.

Also on my Contol Box settings, I keep changing back to the Wanadoo Default but as soon as I log onto the web it goes back to the win-eto.com search page.

Anyway, thanks for sticking with me!

Hi Bobbi,

One more thought,

Hi davidyacht,

Use KillBox on:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\winlogin.exe
c:\WinNt\System32\w8c6s4xcm66s.dll
C:\WINNT\System32\5626K1~1.DLL

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?

Show hidden files. How do I show hidden files?

Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name. If there are more than one, please report them back and do not delete!

Hi Bobbi,

Are they all this bad?

When I looked through the C:\WINNT\System32 files in safe mode, I noted that there are a number of similar random named .dll file form the last few days, all of which show "Melcosoft Corporation" when highlighted, looking in Google for Melkosoft, it appears that there may also be .exe Melkosoft files. Should I be trying to get rid of all of the Melkosoft files by working through the list in safe mode?

Here is the latest Hijackthis log;

Hi davidyacht,

Are you doing my instructions in the order that I wrote them?

Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it. Click on "Delete on Reboot", in the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, enter c:\WinNT\System32\pf3dp5ksw1dmb2ll.dll.dll.dll.dll.dll and click on the button with the white cross in a red circle. You will get a question "File will be Deleted on Next Reboot, Process & Reboot now?", answer "Yes". Let Killbox do it's work.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

Hi davidyacht,

This log is clean!

This is a good time to set up protection against further attacks. Read the article behind this link "How did I get infected". If you don't already have them, you need an antivirus that is updated, a good firewall for example Kerio Personal Firewall or ZoneLabs Zone Alarm, a spyware blocker like SpywareBlaster and also IE-Spyads and spyware detection (Ad-aware SE and SpyBot S+D). All of these have good free versions available... be very cautious about any security software that advertises in popups or other intrusive ways, they are not only usually useless, but also often have malware in them....

Instead of Internet Explorer, use a different browser like Opera, Mozilla or Firefox.

Last, but not least, you need to keep Windows and Internet Explorer up to date by getting all the latest security patches that protects your computer.

This can be accessed by going to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and following the prompts. If you are running Windows XP get updated to SP-2

Please post back if you are still having any problems....
