Greetings,

I am a relatively inexperienced computer user. I have swapx attached to my browser, and it defaults my home page and prevents me from accessing certain
(altho it appears random) web sites, including one of my email sites. I have tried everything from registry mechanic to ad aware, to spybot, and several others, but i cannot seem to get this particular bug out of my system. I gather from other posts i have read that this swapx problem is not going to be as easy as pushing the 'fix selected problems' button. Please help me thru the process of removing it for good. ahah.gif

Hi jutty17,

Please move HijackThis to another location, preferably c:\Program Files\HijackThis. Anywhere is fine, other than your Desktop or a Temp folder. If HijackThis is in a temporary folder you run the risk of accidentally deleting the backups or it clutters your desktop with all the backups.
If you use Windows XP it might be that you just double clicked on the file HijackThis.exe, but that only extracts the file to a temporary folder. Please select the file and Extract it to a folder.

How do you make a permanent folder:

Click "My Computer", then "C:\" and then on "Program Files".
In the menu bar, "File"->"New"->"Folder".
That will create a folder named "New Folder", which you can rename to "HJT" or "HijackThis".
Now you have "C:\Program Files\HijackThis". Put your HijackThis.exe there, and double click to run it.

Run HijackThis, click on "Scan" and check the boxes next to all these items.

You are using BearShare. This is not technically malware by itself, but it installs malware in order to run properly and it opens the door for every other nasty program you can think of. I strongly recommend that you remove it. Read this article for alternatives that will provide some of the same function without the garbage: http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/ If you opt to remove it, first use "Add/Remove Program" to remove it and any reference to BearShare.
This is another article: http://www.cexx.org/adware.htm

If you are going to uninstall this program, also check this item:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [BearShare] "C:\Program Files\BearShare Test\BearShare.exe" /pause

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [romahere] C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [pnpsvc_lock] C:\WINDOWS\System32\19708.exe

You have Microsoft's Find Fast running on your program and while a legitimate program, it is a resource hog. It is usually the cause of your computer getting really slow or even freezing for several seconds while it is indexing. Find fast neither finds things any better or faster than other Windows searches. You will notice system improvement by disabling this one. After fixing with Hijackthis, go into the "FindFast"-icon in the Control Panel and choose the "Index \ Close and Stop" menu option.

O4 - Global Startup: Microsoft Find Fast.lnk = C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\FINDFAST.EXE

O4 - Global Startup: winlogin.exe

Then close all windows, and browsers, except HijackThis. Tell HijackThis to "Fix checked".

Restart your computer in Safe Mode. How do I Safe Boot my computer?

You may have to have hidden files showing. How do I show hidden files?

Folders and files with a tilde (~), means that there is a file/folder that starts with the six characters in front of the tilde, note that there may be spaces in the name. If there are more than one, please report them back and do not delete!

Delete the following files in red (it could be that they are deleted already):

C:\WINDOWS\System32\0W0SZI~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\matrixhere.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\19708.exe
C:\Documents and Settings\ADJ\Application Data\shca.exe
C:\WINDOWS\ffikcelnph.exe

Delete the following folders in red (it could be that they are deleted already):

if you uninstalled BearShare:

C:\Program Files\BearShare Test

Restart your computer and post a new log.

Press "Start", "Search", "Files or folders...". Enter image.dll as the file to search. Post the results it finds. Do the same for winlogin.exe and 49feynstne6j.dll

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as FindFile.bat and save it on your Desktop.

CODE
dir C:\WINDOWS\System32\?poolsv.exe /a h > files.txt
notepad files.txt

Locate Folder.bat on your Desktop and double-click on it. It will open Notepad with some text in it. Please post the text here.
