When I startup the PC, I get a request from a program to connect to "isatap" over the net, and I have no idea what it is. It's only started recently, but don't want it at all. Can you find out what's causing it?

Which program is trying to connect and if available, where is it trying to connect to?

I purchased an ASUS PDA with PPC 2003. For some reason
Active Sync wants to connect to the internet asking
for "isatap" information. This happens every time I put
the PDA in its cradle. It also wants some info from the
microsoft site. What's happening here and how can I get
rid of it. I've got Win-XP prof


When you connect via ActiveSync, it sets up a connection so your Pocket PC
can get to the internet. You can change this behavior as a workaround by
changing the option of connecting to the internet to Work in ActiveSync -
Tools - Options - Rules and change Pass Through to Work.

ActiveSync keeps trying to dial-up!

I have an IPAQ 2210, still the original build of WM2003 that came with it. I
think I upgraded ActiveSync once, shortly after buying it a year ago, to the
newest version (3.7?).

My host computer is running Windows XP Professional. I use a dial-up
Internet connection.

The last couple weeks, every time I connect the PPC to the PC via
ActiveSync, the computer tries to dial-up to the Internet, with the message:
"You (or a program) have requested information from isatap".

What on earth is "isatap"? I did not request any information from them.
Anyone know??






I think you have setup auto-dial feature on your computer and therefore
whenever some program tried to access the Internet, it starts a dial-up
connection with the warning. I suggest you first disable this feature and
see if the problem is solved ---

1. Click Start, Run and type:

control netconnections

2. Click Ok and Network connection screen should appear.
3. On the Advanced menu, click Dial-up Preferences.
4. On the Autodial tab, uncheck any selected check box next to the location
where you want to enable autodial, and then click OK.
5. Attempt to synchronize

If the problem is solved, then all you need to do is identify the
application that is attempting to connect. This might be a little difficult
identify but I would start by checking the dial-up settings of MS Outlook
since during synchronization ActiveSync opens Outlook in the background (if
Outlook is not open).

1. Open Outlook.
2. Click Tools-> Options -> Mail Setup tab.
3. Check the settings under the Dial-up section.

ISATAP means Intra-Site Automatic Tunnel Addressing Protocol. In your case,
I think ISATAP is referred to as the server address that the program is
trying to access. Please do let me know if you are able identify the
application or solve the problem. Good luck !!
