Hi,

Thank goodness Ive found this site, it seems to be the only one around that is actually succeeding in getting rid of this da** 680180..

I know its a pain , but i have included the logfile that hijack this has generated and would be very grateful if anyone can spot anything in it.

Also, how do you pick this real nuisance of a thing up in the first place, and how can we stop it from happening again??

I have installed everything from firewalls, to adaware, spybot, kasperspy and nothing has worked, you have to admire 680180 for being so damned good at creating such a pain in the arse so well!!!

Anyway, thanks in advance...

It is not polite to HiJack someone else's thread. Plus it makes more work for the Admins and Mods who have to split it out. Keep all responses in this thread, please.

First:
You are running an outdated and therefore unsafe version of Windows and/or Internet Explorer.
You NEED to upgrade Windows and/or Internet Explorer. Note the SP2 is now available.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

(Make sure you get the correct language version for your operating system! ).

Go to the Windows Update site, and download and install ALL Critical Updates on offer.
That will fix innumerable bugs, update a large number of important system files, and plug many security holes.

This step is necessary if you are to secure your system and avoid constant re-infection.

Note: you can wait until your log is clean, but you need to bring your system up to date.

Second:
Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the box below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg and save it on your Desktop.
CODE
REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Third:
Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Check the following items in HijackThis.
