Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use "c:\Programs\hijackthis\" but feel free to use any name. Extract and save the Hijackthis download to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if fixes are made. Then, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

Hi Allan,

Are you using Adaware Personal SE v. 1.04 or higher? Also Spybot search and destroy? Both should be able to clean your PC of spyware and we have some other recommendations for programs you can use for prevention here:

Have you thought about giving the daughter User rights only (not admin)? This might eliminate some of the malware downloads, if you haven't done that already/

Make a copy of these instructions so you have them handy as the next steps need to be done with IE closed.

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*
