i suddenly realized i had new links in my favorites, new toolbars, so i scanned with ad-aware after downloading the latest patch. i removed 121 objects, but there are still more. please help me purge them thanks

hmm my hijack this is in c:\hijackthis, i thought that was ok. oh well thanks anyways. by the way, whenever i have multiple windows open (say msn chat dialogues) or if i right click, it takes forever for the options to come up. i didn't experience this problem until recently. is this also an adware/malware problem?

THe slowness on right click can come from many source, not jsut spyware/malware.

First:
I recommend you use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Messenger Plus. While the program itself contains no spyware/malware, many systems using it eventually end up with LOP and other exploits infecting the computer. Also, some of the optional install that come with it are actually spyware/malware, LOP specifically.

Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

sorry to trouble you again, but while downloading drivers for my video card off the ati website i had to reboot, upon rebooting i found that my computer would lock up for 10 seconds or so every once in a while and my cpu usage would spike to 100% could you check agian for me please?

You are still clean. When you get a CPU spike like that, find out which process is using the most CPU %. (note: System Idle is usually over 90%). That will at least point you in correct direction.

but by the time the system unlocks the cpu usage is already back to normal, so there is no way for me to see which process is utlilzing hte most cpu power. are there any alternatives?

Not really. You check out the processes booting using msconfig and selectively remove one. Hopefully you will be abel to find the culprit.
