Full Version: My HijackThis Log.
Gladiator Security Forum > Malware Help Forum > HELP! Think you are Infected?
JimBeam
My computer was recently infected with that da** downloader.dyfica.2.AK trojan thing, and after some extensive searching I found help in these forums on how to get rid of it. So I got rid of it by disabling system restore (at least I think it's gone) and I no longer get the annoying pop up from AVG telling me about the trojan. Now around the same time I was having that problem, I kept getting more pop ups telling me I had all these other viruses, thankfully some scans with various virus scanners fixed those problems (again, at least I think they're fixed). Anyway, ever since I fixed this problem my computer has been running VERY slowly, especially when running multiple processes (eg. burning DVD's with Nero slows my whole computer down very dramatically) and it never used to do that before. I'm thinking it might be because I have left over junk on my computer that the virus scanners didn't pick up. I've ran Adaware and Spybot plenty of times, and do so on a regular basis. If someone could have a look at my HijackThis Log and tell me if it's ok, or if not, what to fix, it would be highly appreciated. So here's my log:

I also recently downloaded and installed Windows XP Service Pack 2, so could that possibly be causing problems with programs and causing my computer to run as slow as it is?
Thanks in advance for any help.
LoPhatPhuud
First:
I recommend you use Add/Remove Programs to uninstall Messenger Plus. While the program itself contains no spyware/malware, many systems using it eventually end up with LOP and other exploits infecting the computer.

Second:
Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Reboot in Safe Mode* and run HiJackThis. <-- IMPORTANT

Check the following items in HijackThis.
R3 - Default URLSearchHook is missing

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nfgez] C:\WINDOWS\rmzkkp.exe

O16 - DPF: {15AD4789-CDB4-47E1-A9DA-992EE8E6BAD6} - http://public.windupdates.com/get_file.php...198a73bd5be0348
O16 - DPF: {E0CE16CB-741C-4B24-8D04-A817856E07F4} - http://cabs.roings.com/cabs/mp3.cab

Close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked.

While still in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
C:\WINDOWS\rmzkkp.exe

*How to Boot into Safe mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...001052409420406
**Show Hidden and System files and folders
http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Also, uncheck the boxes for hiding known file extensions and hiding protected operating system files. We want to see it all. When we finish here, it would be a good idea to rehide the protected operating system files but leave the rest to be shown.

Reboot in normal mode.

HiJackThis version 198.2 is now available.
If you do not already have it installed, download it from here:
http://downloads.net-integration.net/HijackThis.exe
http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-328.html
http://tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.
JimBeam
Thanks a lot for your help. I did everything you said to do, apart from this;

"While still in Safe Mode*, delete the following: (you may need to show hidden files**)
C:\WINDOWS\rmzkkp.exe"

I couldn't locate that file, and yes I did have all the hidden files showing. I just think that maybe when I checked and fixed O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [nfgez] C:\WINDOWS\rmzkkp.exe with HiJackThis, the file might have been deleted.
Anyway here is my new log, and thanks again for your help.

LoPhatPhuud
Your log is clean. HiJackThis does not remove the file when the O4 entry is removed. Most likely the file was already gone and jsut the O4 entry remained.

Your log is clean. The only thing you need to do is upgrade your Windows and Internet Explorer to SP2.

At last, your system is clean and free of spyware! Want to keep it that way?

Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

1. Visit Windows Update: <-- YOU NEED TO DO THIS!!
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.
a. Windows Update: http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

2. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:]
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first option, 'Download signed controls', to 'Prompt; set the
second option, 'Download unsigned controls', to 'Disable'; and finally, set 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'Disable'.

3. Download and install the following free programs
a. SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
b. SpywareGuard: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html
c. IE/Spyad: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

4. Install Spyware Detection and Removal Programs:
You may also want to consider installing either or both of AdAware (free version) and Spybot S&D (freeware). Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.
a. AdAware: http://www.lavasoft.de/]http://www.lavasoft.de/
b. Spybot S&D: http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

5. Install 'Spoofstick"
Spoofstick is a simple browser extension that helps users detect spoofed (fake) websites. This extension is free and installs in Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox.
a. http://www.corestreet.com/spoofstick

For more information about Spyware, the tools available, and other informative material, including information on how you may have been infected in the first place, please check out this link: http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/index...?showtopic=9857

Good luck, and thanks for coming to our forums for help with your security and malware issues.
JimBeam
Thanks a lot for all your help. As you can see from my HiJackThis log, and like I already mentioned earlier, I have SP2. I also regularly do windows updates, I run Adaware and Spybot all the time, and already have SpywareGuard. But I will take your advice and do everything else you have said to do. Thanks ahah.gif
