Hi folks- It's taken me a long time to find people who have had this problem. It doesn't seem as common as you'd think. I'm not famliar with HiJack so I dont' know if I can just take the advice from other postings, so i figured I would do this and see if someone can help me with my HIJACKER. (As I'm typing the window popups up again). I have used Ad-aware and Spybot and even CWShredder...but to no avail.

Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the bold below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg and save it on your Desktop.

Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Looks like it worked...I was able to do everything except the reboot in safe mode. I"m guessing caues it's a work laptop and I don't have the right password to get into it. I did everything else though and no popups thus far! Thanks for your help

You may want to clean all temp files as well. Instructions will follow. Also, if work policy allows, I will recommend some free software you can install to help protect against spyware/malware infections.

First:
A very important step to cleaning out adware or a virus is to clear temporary files.

Double Click My Computer (WinXP: Navigate to Start --->My Computer)

You will see an icon representing your harddrive (most likely C: Drive) Right Click on the hard drive icon and click Properties at the
bottom of the fly out window. One the very first tab (General) you will see a button labeled "Disk Cleanup"...click that button.
Make sure the following are checked:
Downloaded Program Files
Temporary Internet Files and
Recycle Bin
Click OK and Disk Cleanup will delete those files for you.


It would also be a good idea to clear your Internet Cookies.
These directions are for Internet Explorer.
Click Tools along the top of Internet Explorer and choose Internet Options
On the General Tab press Delete Cookies.

Your temporary files are now cleared.
Perform this action periodically to keep your computer running at peak performance


Second:
At last, your system is clean and free of spyware! Want to keep it that way?

Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

1. Visit Windows Update: <-- YOU NEED TO DO THIS!!
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

1. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:]
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first option, 'Download signed controls', to 'Prompt; set the
second option, 'Download unsigned controls', to 'Disable'; and finally, set 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'Disable'.

2. Download and install the following free programs

b. SpywareGuard: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html
c. IE/Spyad: https://netfiles.uiuc.edu/ehowes/www/resource.htm

1. Install Spyware Detection and Removal Programs:
You may also want to consider installing either or both of AdAware (free version) and Spybot S&D (freeware). Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.
