My Internet Explorer browser default keeps changing to http://solongas.com/sp.htm?id=9. It is also putting porn sites in my Favorites section of the browser. I am guessing it is doing other things also.

I have run the most recent versions of Spybot, Ad-aware, Norton Anti-Virus, and XoftSpy. None of them can fix the problem.

Please help me wipe this out. Thanks! Mike

Full disclosure: After I posted my message yesterday I checked out McAfee. They found a lot of stuff that Norton missed so I bought it and ran it. McAfee appears to have cleaned up most of my infections. Then I got your message about CW Shredder. I tried it and it found nothing related to CoolWeb. I ran McAfee again and it found a few trojan files. I am still infected, but I think I am less infected. Here is the logfile from just running HijackThis. I followed the instructions, but couldn't find C:\Windows\System32\image.dll. I did delete C:\WINDOWS\realtime.exe.

Before I did that though, McAfee found a Trojan and said it eliminated it.

At last, your system is clean and free of spyware! Want to keep it that way?

Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

1. Visit Windows Update: <-- YOU NEED TO DO THIS!!
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.

1. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:]
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."

second option, 'Download unsigned controls', to 'Disable'; and finally, set 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'Disable'.
