Hi Audrey Wave.gif

Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use C:\Program Files\HijackThis but feel free to use any name or folder you like. Unzip HijackThis again and save the contents (Hijackthis.exe) to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed.

Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {B9D90B27-AD4A-413a-88CB-3E6DDC10DC2D} - C:\WINDOWS\msopt.dll

Reboot your PC.

Update your HijackThis program (you need to get the newest version 1.98.0)

Open HijackThis.exe and press *config* {bottom right corner} and then press *Misc. Tools* at the top. Next press *check for online update* and you should see version 1.98.0 available. Download that.

P.S. If you have any problems getting the update. Simply delete your old version of HijackThis and download the new version from this link.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloadget.php?...a8baee6434cfc13

Now, Scan with the new version of HijackThis and post a fresh log please. There may be more to do.

Hi,

Here's the latest log. And it looks like my homepage is no longer being hijacked, too.

CalamityJane
Hi again,

Ok - no you still have the hijacker I think. That's why I needed to see the scan in the latest version of HijackThis. So, let's do this:

1. Download this free tool called CWShredder (use the save as...not the open with option). We're not going to run it yet, but do the download so you have it handy for when we do. Unzip it and save to your desktop.

2. Scan with HijackThis. Checkmark the following entries and press *fix checked*

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\WINGYU~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = file://C:\DOCUME~1\WINGYU~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = file://C:\DOCUME~1\WINGYU~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\sp.html

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,HomeOldSP = about:blank

O18 - Protocol: icoo - {4A8DADD4-5A25-4D41-8599-CB7458766220} - C:\WINDOWS\msopt.dll

O18 - Filter: text/html - {C9A43270-1CB5-418C-8156-044E8F01C20C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\efmfpfa.dll

O18 - Filter: text/plain - {C9A43270-1CB5-418C-8156-044E8F01C20C} - C:\WINDOWS\System32\efmfpfa.dll

3. Make a copy of these instructions so you have them handy as the next steps need to be done in safe mode with IE closed.

Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

4. Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE

How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

5. Delete these files (if found)

C:\WINDOWS\msopt.dll

C:\WINDOWS\System32\efmfpfa.dll

C:\DOCUME~1\WINGYU~1\LOCALS~1\Temp <---empty the contents of this folder but not the folder itself.

6. Open the CWShredder you downloaded earlier by clicking on the CWShredder.exe. Press the *fix* button (not the scan button) and let it run and remove any bad files found.

Reboot back into normal mode. Scan again with HijackThis and post a fresh log please.

Edit by CalamityJane: The FINDnFIX tool is no longer available. Instructions previously posted now removed

Hi,

My husband doesn't want me to download anymore programs without knowing more about you. You sound sincere and all, but are your references available?

Hi,

I've met a lot of nice and helpful people online. Thanks for sending me the links about yourself. Where do I go to download CWShredder? It wasn't in your last email.

Audrey
CalamityJane
Ooops, sorry - forgot to add the download link and instructions for CWShredder:

Download CWShredder here:

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

or here
http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-349.html

Save it to a convenient place on your PC and unzip it but do not use it yet as it is best to run the tool in Safe mode (see instructions at the bottom of this reply if you do not know how to boot into safe mode)

Once in safe mode, Just click on CWShredder.exe (You will need to have all browsers and any open windows closed). Hit the *Fix* button to run it (don't use the scan button - that doesn't do anything helpful) Let it fix what it finds. When done, press *next* and you will get the results, and then *exit*

Unfortunately as of yesterday the FINDnFIX tool is no longer available. You will not be able to complete that step so I will remove those instructions from my prior post.

Additionally, Adaware had an update yesterday...please check for updates in that program, download them and scan with it also in safe mode.

How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

The "msconfig" method of booting into safe mode in the link above for XP is usually recommended as it is the easiest to follow.
