Hi Ronnie,

Most of what you have is related to downloads of Adware from the internet (free programs that come bundled with parasites and ads - like Messenger Plus) Be careful of what you are downloading and read the terms before you do. Most often these are disclosed to you ( at least with the parasites that are appearing in your log).

Since you didn't state a problem, I'm not sure which ones are a bother to you. Removal may mean that some program you downloaded and these came with will no longer work, but I have included the most common problem programs that I see in the following.

First, you can uninstall Newdot.net per the following uninstall instructions. Any other method of removal could interfere with your ability to connect to the internet.

http://www.newdotnet.com/#remove

Next - go to Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and look for these programs:

MyWay Searchbar

MyWeb Search bar

After doing that (and removing Newdot.net), reboot and scan once more with HijackThis and post a fresh log to see if any remnants are left.

SpyHunter is a ripoff Antispyware program. See here:
Rogue/Suspect Anti-Spyware Products & Web Sites
http://www.spywarewarrior.com/rogue_anti-spyware.htm

We recommend two programs that are much more highly rated and effective at removal and both are available for FREE.

See here: How to Stop Hijackers & Spyware Infections, And other malware too!

Hi Ronnie,

Scan again with HijackThis and post a new log please.

"Coral program" is pretty vague. I don't think I can answer about that one as I'm not familiar with the program you are speaking of.

CalamityJane
Hi Ronnie,

How did you manage to pick up a boatload of new malware already? Is iMesh a new download? (It comes bundled with garbage you know). So does MessengerPlus

You might want to first take a look at our prevention page, so you're not just getting reinfected each time.

How to Stop Hijackers & Spyware Infections, And other malware too!
http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/index...?showtopic=9857

You have a CoolWebSearch hijacker and that needs a special (free) tool to remove it called CWShredder.
Download CWShredder here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

or here
http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-349.html

Just download it, and click on it (You will need to have all browsers and any open windows closed). Hit the *Fix* button to run it (don't use the scan button). Let it fix what it finds. When done, press *next* and you will get the results, and then *exit*

Reboot your PC and scan again with HijackThis to see what remains

Regarding the Coral program....have you contacted the manufacturer? I would think they would have the best instruction for how to remove it.
Ronnie
Well I added imesh after i did first log but i don't know any other download sites for free which won't put a load of crap on my pc. I won't use kazaa as i think it is rubbish but imesh ain't too bad.
CalamityJane
Hi Ronnie,

You need to get rid of both Kazaa and Imesh....that is where your problems are coming from. Here is a link to some better alternatives and why to avoid those two programs.

Read this discussion of Kazaa here: Almost half of Kazaa downloads 'threaten security'
http://askdg.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=1136.
Which will ultimately lead you to a link in my last reply in that thread that gives you some spywarefree alternatives if you must use file sharing apps:

Clean and Infected File Sharing Programs
http://www.spywareinfo.com/articles/p2p/

Did you run the CWShredder to clean? We need to see a fresh HijackThis log afterwards please.
Ronnie
Ok here is a new log sorry i didn't get back sooner been a bit busy

1. Please put the following file in a zip file and email to me for analysis. I will give you my email address to send to in a private message so please check your private message box at the top of this forum and do that first.

C:\WINDOWS\toppop.exe <--put in a zip file and email to me
C:\WINDOWS\questmod.dll <---put in a zip file and email to me
C:\Program Files\Symantec\wbbdeb49bo.exe <--put in a zip file and email to me

Then proceed with the following steps:

2. Please make a new folder to put your HijackThis.exe into. Anywhere on your hard drive is fine other than your Desktop or the Temp folder. We suggest you use C:\Program Files\HijackThis but feel free to use any name or folder you like. Unzip HijackThis again and save the contents (Hijackthis.exe) to the new folder you made. Then navigate to it and run HijackThis from there. This is to ensure it makes the necessary backups for recovery if needed.

3. Go to the Control Panel in Add/Remove programs, highlight and remove:

MyWay search bar

4. Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

5. Next, please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*

QUOTE (Ronnie @ Jul 12 2004, 10:44 PM)
ok thanks Jane i was gonna send you the files but when i did a check before sending file it was saying symtac was an infected file don't know what is going on with this computer of mine. :(

Which file please? Can you provide the details of the logs from Symantec. If it detects it then it should be able to remove it.

Meanwhile, you have new malware installed again.

You have a CoolWebSearch hijacker and that needs a special (free) tool to remove it called CWShredder.
Download CWShredder here:
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4086.html

or here:
http://www.computercops.biz/downloads-file-349.html

Just download it, and click on it (You will need to have all browsers and any open windows closed). Hit the *Fix* button to run it. Let it fix what it finds. When done, press *next* and you will get the results, and then *exit*

Update your Adaware program and make sure it has these settings:

Just open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. You should now see Reference File # : 01R332 12.07.2004 or higher listed.

In Ad-aware click the Gear icon to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:

Scan within archives

Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING

In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level (this makes it easier for visitors to the Lavasoft Support Forums to see what options you have selected should you require assistance.)

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:

Unload recognized processes during scanning

Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan

Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:

XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion

Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings.

Don't scan yet, please. We need to do the next steps in SAFE MODE, so please copy these instructions so you have them handy since you will probably not be able to get online in safe mode.

Now, Reboot into safe mode (instructions included in case you need them.
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

Open Adaware, Press *scan now* and put a dot in the box next to *use Custom scanning options*, then click *Next* to start your scan.

Checkmark any items found after scanning to remove (this will actually put them in quarantine and can recover from backup if any should not be removed).

Reboot your PC after cleaning with Adaware and scan again. Repeat the process until no further items are found as bad.

Scan once more with Hijackthis and post a new log please
Ronnie

The last time you said you installed Kazaa.

Now that PC is infected with all the same crap I just removed last month and I do not have time to keep removing the same pests from your computer.

Get rid of the Messenger Plus - it comes with the LOP hijacker.

Get rid of Kazaa and Imesh and you both need to watch what you download or else just learn to live with it.

Remove the MyWay or My Web Searchbars in add/remove programs in your control panel.

Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE

Scan with HijackThis and checkmark these items then press fix checked.

Stay in safe mode and delete the following folder (this is the LOP hijacker thans to the Messenger Plus install you have):

C:\Program Files\MyWay <---delete entire folder (if found)

In fact, you do have new items. With the users in the household downloading this stuff, you really will need to purchase some kind of resident program for prevention. I cannot continue to provide support for removing malware each time you want to use your computer. I would recommend either Adaware Plus or BOClean. AAW Plus is available for $26.95 and BOClean is $39.95 http://www.nsclean.com/boclean.html

Ad-Aware is completely free! A Plus version is available for immediate download for $26.95 which features real-time monitoring and blocking for your system. Not only can you remove privacy threats from your computing environment, you can also BLOCK them from invading your system in the first place!
http://www.majorgeeks.com/download506.html

You'll need to reboot your PC into safe mode.

Scan with HijackThis and checkmark and *fix checked* these items:

R3 - URLSearchHook: SrchHook Class - {F08555B0-9CC3-11D2-AA8E-000000000000} - C:\WINDOWS\system\SEARCH~1.DLL

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [VCMANAGER] C:\PROGRA~1\HOLELO~1\bibfilmface.exe

While still in Safe Mode, delete this folder:

C:\PROGRAM FILES\HOLELO <--Folder name starts with those letters and contains the file: bibfilmface.exe. Delete the entire folder and it's contents.

Have you been to our prevention page and implemented these recommendations?
