Post another hijackthis log please so the real experts can see if we blew any thing up..I see a few 016- entires you could live without..but Jane or LoPhat will fix you up.
CalamityJane
Grizz,

That is one of the largest collections of nasty dialers I think I've ever seen. Lots of other bad stuff too. The dialers are all in the 016 items (Downloaded Program files, gotten via ActiveX - you need to tighten up the ActiveX setting on that IE browser!!)

You are missing some files on the Freedom program - may have been removed by malware. If you are still using that program you may need to uninstall/reinstall it.

I'll go ahead and post a list - and if one or two of these is not on the HJT log after cleaning with CWShredder, then it was already cleaned off. But better get to these right away:

Please go offline, close all browsers and any open Windows, making sure that only HijackThis is open. Scan and when it finishes, put an x in the boxes next to these items, then press *fix checked*

......................
Reboot the PC and delete:

c:\program files\primesoft (folder)

EGCOMLIB_1034.dll, (file)

Better see here for removal instruction for the SafeSearch program
http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/adware.safesearch.html
(look for an uninstaller for Safesearch or see if it is in Add/Remove Programs in the Control panel and remove from there first)
..............................
Download Adaware (get the free edition)
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
(choose download from the lefthand menu)

Go to: Select Full Install and choose the download location of your choice (1.7mb)
Choose Download from
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=965718306 <--(I found FileForum easiest)

Be sure to UPDATE BEFORE SCANNING FIRST!! That is a very important step and I have included easy directions.

Also download and install the Vx2 Cleaner Plugin. Download it here:
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/plugins/vx2cleaner.shtml

After download and installing first, please update the program. Just open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. You should now see Reference File # : 01R329 06.07.2004 or higher listed.

In Ad-aware click the Gear icon to go to the Settings area.

The following items should be on a green check, not on a red X.

Under the Scanning button:

Scan within archives

Under Memory & Registry, Check EVERYTHING

In Check Drives & Folders, make sure all of your hard drives are selected

Under the Advanced button, check ALL under Log detail level (this makes it easier for visitors to the Lavasoft Support Forums to see what options you have selected should you require assistance.)

Under the Tweak button...

Some of these may not be an available option, depending on your version of Ad-aware and your version of Windows. Do not be concerned if you cannot select a certain item.

In Scanning Engine:

Unload recognized processes during scanning

Include info about ignored objects in logfile, if detected in scan

Include basic Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include additional Ad-aware settings in logfile

Include used command line parameters in logfile

In Cleaning Engine:

XP/2000: Allow unloading explorer to unload shell extensions prior to deletion

Let Windows remove files in use at next reboot

UNCHECK: Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click Proceed to save these settings.

Don't scan yet, please. We need to do the next steps in SAFE MODE, so please copy these instructions so you have them handy since you will probably not be able to get online in safe mode.

Now, Reboot into safe mode (instructions included in case you need them.
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

Open Adaware, Press *scan now* and put a dot in the box next to *use Custom scanning options*, then click *Next* to start your scan.

Checkmark any items found after scanning to remove (this will actually put them in quarantine and can recover from backup if any should not be removed).

Reboot your PC after cleaning with Adaware and scan again. Repeat the process until no further items are found as bad.

Scan once more with Hijackthis and don't remove anything yet in the log. Post it back here so we can see what may remain to be fixed :)
Grizz
Hi
We followed all your suggestions but still have a problem
The good news is Kloun does not start with the internet explorer anymore which is great! However I can not seem to get rid of the following files:

c:\program files\primesoft (folder)

EGCOMLIB_1034.dll, (file)

and In the Hijack log

Hi Grizz,

Making progress but still some work to do.

Let's do the next steps in SAFE MODE.

Make a copy of these instructions so you have them handy as the next steps need to be done in safe mode with IE closed.

1. Make sure your PC is configured to show hidden files

Open Windows Explorer & Go to Tools > Folder Options. Click on the View tab and make sure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. Also uncheck "Hide protected operating system files" and untick "hide extensions for known file types" . Now click "Apply to all folders"
Click "Apply" then "OK"

2. Reboot your PC into SAFE MODE

How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

3. Scan with Adaware (make sure it has the latest update and settings I gave you in my last post)

4. Scan with HijackThis and checkmark these items (if found)

O2 - BHO: Freedom Popup Killer - {3C060EA2-E6A9-4E49-A530-D4657B8C449A} - C:\Program Files\Zero Knowledge\Freedom\pkR.dll (file missing)

5. Stay in safe mode and delete the following files and/or folders named in bold:

C:\program files\primesoft (folder)

EGCOMLIB_1034.dll (file)

6. Reboot back into normal mode and scan once more with HijackThis. Post a new log please.

I would not even let that PC surf the web until you get the Windows updates you need. It's going to get infected again just being online until you get them.

:o Important!!There are no service packs installed on that PC for WinXP or IE!! Please be sure to visit Windows Update - get ALL the critical security updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS and broswer

Also on Kloun I am aware that it also might do this..

My Homepage keeps changing to http:kloun.com/index.htm and
it also keeps adding to my favourite 4 "special" websites
linked to kloun.

So check in your favourite..since I am not sure that is clean automatically..jane might have a thought on that one.

Hi
Thanks I will follow your suggestions and post a new log when finished. ahah.gif Wave.gif

Good Morn all. ahah.gif

I noticed that I can operate my Freedom Security program that was a part of my telus package. So i am thinking of reinstalling it. BUt I will wait.

I also noticed the 4 "special" pages on the favorites page, but I got rid of those.

CalamityJane Wave.gif UUUUUm did the light go out lol :zorro:
CalamityJane
Looks Good Grizz, but I was really hoping to see some Service Packs at least on the WinXP and IE. You know there are some nasty worms out there that can get you without any user intervention running an unpatched PC like that. Hope you will do that next. ;)

Now, here's all the final stuff you need to do and think about :)

Now that your PC is clean, make sure all programs are running properly and then you'll need to reset your restore point in Windows XP.......why?

One of the best features of Windows ME or XP is the System Restore option, however if a malware infects a computer with this operating system it can be backed up in the System Restore folder. Therefore, clearing the restore points is necessary after malware removal.

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

Next, we highly recommend you get some extra protection to prevent future infections. Here are some things you can do and some free programs to help :).

How to Stop Hijackers & Spyware Infections, And other malware too!
http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/index...?showtopic=9857

I also highly recommend to get the free tool, Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer (MBSA) from Microsoft to analyze your PC security for prevention purposes.

MBSA Version 1.2 will scan for common system misconfigurations on Windows 2000, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003 systems. This program will identify the system security weaknesses in your browser and operating system and provides easy instructions to correct them. This includes any missing critical Windows security updates, system vulnerabilities and your IE Browser security settings. Get the download here:
Microsoft Baseline Security Analyzer
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/...s/mbsahome.mspx

You might also consider an alternative browser and use IE only when needed for sites that require ActiveX and are trusted (like Windows update or the online virus scanners). I use Firefox for 99% of my everyday surfing (using it right now in fact). It's free and very easy to setup, understand and use without many of the vulnerabilities that IE has. Or feel free to search around for info on other alternative browsers.
