To put simply, there are far too many things wrong with this computer to post here, so I'll just post the HijackThis log and let y'all go to work. I'll let you know ahead of time that I am a complete "newbie" when it comes to technology, however, I will try my best to follow your instructions. If worse comes to worst, I'll have my friend come over (who is atleast slightly better than me with computers) to try to follow your directions. Thanks.

First:
Download the latest version of Adaware (get the free edition)
http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
(choose download from the lefthand menu)

Go to: Select Full Install and choose the download location of your choice (1.7mb)
Choose Download from http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail.php3?fid=965718306 <--(I found FileForum easiest)

Be sure to UPDATE BEFORE SCANNING FIRST!! That is a very important step and I have included easy directions.

After download and installing first, please update the program. Just open Adaware and click on *Check for Updates Now* and then *Connect*. It will find a new reference-file. Click *ok* and let it download and install the updates by clicking on *Finish* .This will return you to the main screen. You should now see Reference File # :01R323 20.06.2004 or higher listed.

Next, go to Settings (the gear icon at the top) and then *Scanning* and checkmark these items so they will be green:
Scan within archives
Scan my IE Favorites for banned URLS
Scan my hosts file

Then click *proceed* to save settings.

Click on *Tweak* next. And checkmark to make this green also:
Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion

Click on *proceed*

Next, from the main screen, click on *Start* (lower righthand corner) and put a dot in the box next to *use Custom scanning options*, then click *Next* to start your scan.

Checkmark any items found after scanning to remove (this will actually put them in quarantine and can recover from backup if any should not be removed).

Reboot your PC after cleaning with Adaware and scan again. Repeat the process until no further items are found as bad.

Run HiJackThis and post a new log in this thread.

Second:
Please download and Install Spybot S&D from here:

http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=download

A short tutorial can be found here:
http://www.safer-networking.org/index.php?page=tutorial

Be sure you bring Spybot S&D up to date. To bring SpybotSearch & Destroy up-to-date - Start the program and press the "Search for Updates" button. Put a check inside the items listed to download and install them.

Then click on "Check for Problems". Have Spybot remove/fix all that it lists in RED.

Once Spybot S&D is finished removing the items listed in red, close the program and restart your computer. If Spybot S&D says it needs to start up when your computer reboots - let it as it will be needing to finish the removal of some components of the spyware it found.

Now run HiJackThis again and post the log in this thread. There will probably be more to so.

Ok, some gone, more to go.

First:
Please Download CoolWebShredder, from
http://www.merijn.org/files/cwshredder.zip
http://www.zerosrealm.com/downloads/CWShredder.zip

Extract CWShredder to its own folder,

Reboot in Safe Mode*** and run the program.

Be sure all open windows are closed.

Click the 'Fix ->' button.

Make sure you let it fix all CWS Remnants.

Afterwards Reboot.

Second:
Launch Notepad, and copy/paste the bold below into a new text file. Save it as fixme.reg and save it on your Desktop.

REGEDIT4
[-HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\URLSearchHooks]
"{CFBFAE00-17A6-11D0-99CB-00C04FD64497}"=""

Locate fixme.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it.
You will receive a prompt similar to: "Do you wish to merge the information into the registry?".
Answer 'Yes' and wait for a message to appear similar to "Merged Successfully".

Third:
Download the following tool and install it in its own folder:
http://tools.zerosrealm.com/VX2Finder.exe

=== Get Name of Hidden dll ===
Run vx2finder.exe
Press 'Click to Find VX2.BetterInternet'
Press 'Make Log' and post it in this thread for review

=== Delete Hidden dl, Guardian key, User Agent; Restore Security Policies ===
Sign off and stay off the internet until the entire procedure is complete.

Run vx2finder.exe
Press 'Click to Find VX2.BetterInternet'
Select all the files found
Press 'Delete These Files'

The program will delete all files but one that will be deleted on reboot
Allow program to reboot

Once Restarted:
a. Press 'Guardian.reg'
b. Press 'User Agent'
c. Press 'Restore Policy'

Run AdAware again.

Fourth:
Before we begin, please be sure that HiJackThis is in its own folder. This will allow us to use backups to restore entries if necessary. Please do not put HiJackThis in a temporary folder, or on the Desktop. I suggest using 'c:\program files\hijackthis\' or C:\HiJackThis\, but any name you choose is fine.

Note: Some of these items may have been rmeoved in the steps above. If you cannot find an item I ahve marked, just go on to the next one.

I hit a bump in the road persay or it could be my lack of understanding of computers. When trying to merge the fixme.reg I received a message telling me it was wrong or something about being in binary, whcih quite frankly i didnt understand. If need be I could re do the process and get copy the message for you. I also was unable to log in during safe mode anddue to my lack of experience with Safe Mode I was unsure if anything could be done.
LoPhatPhuud
The file fixme.reg should not cause any error if you cut and pasted all the text in bold. I have attached it to this message. Just unzip it and doulbe click on it. If it fails again, please advise the error message you receive.

When you reboot into Safe Mode you will be deleting files. Many programs will run in Safe Mode, including HiJackThis, CWShredder, AdAware and Spybot. But for this log, you will only be deleting files. IF you are more comfortable, run CWSHredder in normal mode.

At last, your system is clean and free of spyware! Want to keep it that way?

Here are some simple steps you can take to reduce the chance of infection in the future.

1. Visit Windows Update: <-- YOU NEED TO DO THIS!!
Make sure that you have all the Critical Updates recommended for your operating system and IE. The first defense against infection is a properly patched OS.
a. Windows Update: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

1. Adjust your security settings for ActiveX:]
Go to Internet Options/Security/Internet, press 'default level', then OK.
Now press "Custom Level."
In the ActiveX section, set the first option, 'Download signed controls', to 'Prompt; set the
second option, 'Download unsigned controls', to 'Disable'; and finally, set 'Initialize and Script ActiveX controls not marked as safe" to 'Disable'.

2. Download and install the following free programs
a. SpywareBlaster: http://www.javacoolsoftware.com/spywareblaster.html
b. SpywareGuard: http://www.wilderssecurity.net/spywareguard.html
c. IE/Spyad: http://www.staff.uiuc.edu/~ehowes/resource.htm

1. Install Spyware Detection and Removal Programs:
You may also want to consider installing either or both of AdAware (free version) and Spybot S&D (freeware). Use these programs to regularly scan your system for and remove many forms of spyware/malware.
a. AdAware: http://www.lavasoft.de/
b. Spybot S&D: http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

For more information about Spyware, the tools available, and other informative material, including information on how you may have been infected in the first place, please check out this link: http://forum.gladiator-antivirus.com/index...?showtopic=9857

Good luck, and thanks for coming to our forums for help with your security and malware issues.
MasterShake31
My thanks can't be described with words. ya'll are awsome.
MasterShake31
Ok, I have Mozilla Firefox and have the following programs to stop/remove malware:

1. AVG Antivirus Program

2. Spybot S&D

3. Ad-Aware

4. Firefox

So, what do I need to DL to keep my system clean and remove anything that gets through?
LoPhatPhuud
OK, I re-opened this and merged your posts.

The tools I mentioned in my previous post are for Internet Explorer. I would suggest you make sure that TeaTimer is running in Spybot S&D. This will catch potential harmful registry changes.

Using Firefox will avoid a lot of infections. You still need IE for Windows Updates so keep it current and protected.
