Please, put your copy of HijackThis in a folder called C:\HijackThis. This is very important and I forgot to tell you before.

Now I can see that I made a second mistake... (today is not my day...)

The files you have to look for are:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\iebi32.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ipvo32.exe

If you don't find them, ok.

Please restart in Safe mode again and once there run HijackThis from its new location.

Check the following as you did before:

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {82F71ED1-85F0-4EE6-2FC8-A15DCF0DA6CE} - C:\WINDOWS\iptk.dll
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [apppf.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\apppf.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [crbr32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\crbr32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [atltl.exe] C:\WINDOWS\atltl.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [apijv32.exe] C:\WINDOWS\system32\apijv32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [atlef.exe] C:\WINDOWS\atlef.exe

Press Fix checked. Close HT. Remember that you still are in Safe mode, so locate the files:

C:\WINDOWS\iptk.dll
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apppf.exe
C:\WINDOWS\crbr32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\atltl.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\apijv32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\atlef.exe

and delete them. Then restart in normal mode and post a new HT log.

There is something that brings back the BHO.

Let's try with DLLFix in http://tools.zerosrealm.com/dllfix.exe

Doubleclick it and install in folder of choice but on the root drive, most likely C:\

1.Run start.bat and press option 1. 'output.txt' and 'windows.txt' will be created in the folder. Please post them here. Both.

If it comes up clear, will follow another way.
JohnH
hope this is what you need!!

Ok, nothing there. Now please do the following:

Download and unzip (best to all in one folder on your desktop): http://tools.zerosrealm.com/pv.zip

In the folder find runme.bat and with exactly one explorer windows open choose option 1

Post the log that is made.

It's clean to me...

Please go to ALL of the following online antivirus and perform a scan (let's try to discard a virus or trojan infection). Delete all they find:

http://security.symantec.com/

http://housecall.trendmicro.com/

http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/

http://www.ravantivirus.com/scan/

After that please post a fresh HijackThis log.
LoPhatPhuud
I believe that you have a new variant of the CWS infection.

If you have not already started the scans that FatsGordon suggested above, plesae hold off until we confirm my thinking.

This is actually a new variant of CWS which is not resolved by current methods.

First step is to identify the controlling exe.

Download the attached Zip file and unzip to a convenient place.
Open the 'get_active_sevices' folder and double click on 'get active services.vbs'.
This will produce a text file named 'active.txt'
Post the contents of active.txt in this thread.

*Note: If your Antivirus is running a scriptblocker, when you run this tool, you will probably receive an alert warning you that the script is running. "Allow" the script to run.

=== Remove CWS sp.html/#nnnnn exploit ===
This is actually a new variant of CWS which is not resolved by current methods.

Please take the following steps:

First, please enable viewing of hidden/system files per the instructions here: http://www.xtra.co.nz/help/0,,4155-1916458,00.html

Using the Task Manager end the task on the following processes:
C:\WINDOWS\javaht32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\crcf32.exe

Next, go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit OK.
Scroll down and find the service called "Network Security Service".
When you find it, double-click on it.
In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then change the Startup Type to Disabled.
Now hit Apply and then OK and close any open windows.

Be sure to close all browser and explorer windows before continuing.

Run HijackThis and place a check mark next to the following items:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = res://C:\WINDOWS\pjcmj.dll/sp.html#96676

Press 'Fix Checked'.

Exit HiJackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode* and delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\system32\crcf32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\javaht32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\addqz.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntiq.exe
C:\WINDOWS\addrp32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\ntwk32.exe

* How to Boot into Safe Mode: http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...001052409420406

Go to Start --> Run and enter 'regedit', press 'Enter'

Navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\__NS_Service_3
If __NS_Service_3 exists , right click on it and choose delete from the menu.

Now navigate to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY___NS_Service_3
If LEGACY___NS_Service_3 exists then right click on it and choose delete from the menu

Exit regedit, boot in Normal Mode.

Run HiJackThis again and post a new log in this thread.

Two files were also deleted from your computer and need to be replaced.

Go here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/winfiles.html#control and download the version of control.exe for your operating system. If you are running Windows 2000, copy it to c:\winnt\system32\. For Windows XP, copy it to c:\windows\system32\.

Download the Hoster from here: http://members.aol.com/toadbee/hoster.zip
Press 'Restore Original Hosts' and press 'OK'
Exit Program.

If you have Spybot S&D installed you will also need to replace one file.
Go here: http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/winfiles.html#sdhelper and download SDHelper.dll. Copy the file to the folder containing you Spybot S&D program (normally C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy)

First:
Try rebooting into Safe Mode and see if the key will delete then.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\Root\LEGACY___NS_Service_3

I will check around and see if this is a common problem, what the importance of deleting the key is, and if there is another solution.

Second:
Your log is clean!!!

Third:
You are running an outdated and therefore unsafe version of Internet Explorer.
You NEED to upgrade to IE 6.0 SP1
http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

(Make sure you get the correct language version for your operating system! ).

Next, go to the Windows Update site, and download and install ALL Critical Updates on offer.
That will fix innumerable bugs, update a large number of important system files, and plug many security holes.

This step is mandatory if you are to avoid Gaobot, Sasser, and Help file exploits.
