Hi. I'm pretty sure I've been infected with something (again), and I don't want to have to reformat again, so I want to nip this in the bud. Norton Antivirus won't run autoprotect, and email scanning has an error. I ran Adaware and fixed some things, same with Spybot, but still no dice. Every time I scan with Spybot, when I get to about 12,000/13,000 I get an error in "winpup32" or something of the sort. My hijackthis log follows:

Any ideas please?
jkitsune
I just finished running Norton and Trends Micro virus scanners, and both came up negative. Useless... =/
FatsGordon
Hi!

My opinion, you can do what you want: uninstall Kazaa completely. Update Ad-aware (be sure to have Build 6.181 and last reference file), perform a FULL (Custom, the second option) scan as directed here: http://www.lavahelp.com/howto/fullscan/index.html and eliminate all it finds. Reboot in safe mode:
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

Perform a new Custom (FULL) scan with Ad-aware. Eliminate all it finds. Reboot in normal mode.

Rescan with HijackThis and post a fresh log.
jkitsune
I tried to uninstall Kazaa, but I can't find an actual uninstall component. Figures. How can I clean it off my hard drive?
FatsGordon
There is a non-commercial product to do so, but I won't recommend it.

Let's do it the hard way:

First of all go into Safe mode:
How to start the computer in Safe mode
http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/tsgen...src=sec_doc_nam

There locate C:\Program Files\Kazaa\ and see if there is a Uninstall.exe. If not, try to locate a .log or .txt file. What I'm trying to find is a list of programs and registry keys installed. If you find it copy it and paste it here. If no luck...

Delete the whole Kazaa\ folder.

Do the Ad-aware thing I told you and post the HT log.
jkitsune
Adaware found nothing either time.

Spybot is still having the winpup32 error problem, and it keeps finding "DSO exploit" (3 - 5 objects each time usually).

I can't tell you... I don't use SpyBot S&D.

Ok. Now close all open programs and browser windows and open HijackThis. Press Scan. Then put a check mark in ONLY the following entries:

R3 - URLSearchHook: PerfectNavBHO Class - {00D6A7E7-4A97-456f-848A-3B75BF7554D7} - C:\PROGRA~1\PERFEC~1\BHO\PERFEC~1.DLL (file missing)

O16 - DPF: {1D6711C8-7154-40BB-8380-3DEA45B69CBF} (Web P2P Installer) -

Then press Fix checked, close HijackThis and reboot. Post a fresh HT log.
jkitsune
Norton auto-protect and email scanning is still down. Fresh HJThis log.

Yes.

Go into Safe mode again and open HijackThis. Fix this entry:

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [P2P Networking] C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe /AUTOSTART

Then go to C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\ and delete everything, including the folder P2P Networking\

Then reboot and post a fresh HT log.

Still can't figure out how to fix this winpup thing that Spybot has found. =/

Thanks for your help today. Anything else?
Hunter
For your sypbot dso thing see this thread..

SPYBOT S&D 1.3 - DSO EXPLOIT GONE!

http://www.dslreports.com/forum/remark,10295736~mode=flat

It appears now that your...

C:\WINDOWS\System32\P2P Networking\P2P Networking.exe

is gone..but usually you could have just gone to add/remove programs in the control panel and removed it.
Hunter
On you winpup thing with spybot...when it does find it..what is the complete path that it lists for the problem.?? I think it is possible spybot is finding remenant of it in a place on your PC or captured with one of your other security products that has already contained..quarantined etc when it scans..

I will take a look at your Nav problem also.
jkitsune
Bazooka spyhunter is finding Weatherbug on my computer, though I can't figure out how to get rid of it.

The spybot thing doesn't give me a path: it just says "error during check! Winpup32 (ungultiger datentyp fur ")

The DSO exploit thing sounds like it's not -supposed- to be a problem, and I don't feel comfortable enough screwing with registry keys. I have to go for now, but thanks so much for all your help. Hopefully we can get this fixed. I may just need to reinstall Norton.

Jesse
FatsGordon
Your log is clean, at least to me it is...
Hunter
yes i am tinking the same thing for that norton problem..
As Fats Gordon states that log looks good now.

back to the winpup32 and spybot..please read this entire ongoing thread. :thumb:
You are also not alone with this problem..

Every time i scan with spybot 1.3 I get

Error during check!
Winpup32 (Ungültiger Datentyp für ")

Why do I get it, and how do I remove it?

http://forums.net-integration.net/index.php?showtopic=15101

And you are right for the dso..do not mess with the registery..in fact if you read that last post in that thread..it appear that spybot did now have a fix for it so it will not bother you...did you read that ??
Hunter
On that weatherbug thing...have you ever used AIM ???

AIM now bundling weatherbug... ugh

also suggesting to you when adaware, spypbot or even your Norton or any ohter program you have is used to clean off a trojan..hijacker or exploit...start getting whether in thier recovery folder..quarantine ect..and then when you are happy with what they have done..CLEAN OUT AND DELETE THOSE BACKUPS..if you do not then you will find that other scans will start finding again those badboys and run you nuts trying to find if they are still a real threats or benign.

As I recall both adaware and spybot are now telling users when they do install the individual products..to be aware that thing like that could happen.

Also I like sypbot and use it..but right now the final release of the 1.3 is still having hiccups as you can see..so hang in there.. :thumb:
