Hi. Have seen other stuff about this. Basically ignorant of most computer functions, so step by step guide to removal of this irritating pop up would be nice. am getting a box popping up intermittently showing the Trojan dialer 6 as being in C:\System Volume Informationin spite of AVG in theory having isolated it. Am I condemned to this forever or can I get rid of it, and if so how?

You haven't posted the whole log. You need to scroll all the way down to the bottom and paste it back here. But anytime AVG gives you those popups (and they CAN be annoying) saying you have an infected file in System Volume Information folder, it means you need to reset your restore points (especially it you have recently cleaned a threat from your system).

Sometimes, when a PC is infected a copy of the file is backed up in your System Restore (XP and ME). By default, Windows prevents System Restore from being modified by outside programs, which includes your AV program.

Reset your System restore to resolve the problem

To reset your restore points, please note that you will need to log into your computer with an account which has full administrator access. You will know if the account has administrator access because you will be able to see the System Restore tab. If the tab is missing, you are logged in under a limited account.

(winXP)

1. Turn off System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
Check Turn off System Restore.
Click Apply, and then click OK.

2. Reboot.

3. Turn ON System Restore.
On the Desktop, right-click My Computer.
Click Properties.
Click the System Restore tab.
UN-Check *Turn off System Restore*.
Click Apply, and then click OK.
