I noticed that things kept crashing unexpectedly on my PC - Word, IE, Outlook etc and did a scan of my hard drive with AVG. It spotted what it called a "Dialer.6.G" virus. It put it in the virus vault for me, but the problems still havent gone away.... leading me to your site........ I've followed the instructions from one of the top message thread...

Hi,

There is a trojan infection as per your log.

Kindly do the following in order:

1. Empty Temporary Internet files. (Start>Run>type %temp% then hit OK. Delete all items in that folder). Close the folder.

2. Disable System Restore. (Right-click 'My Computer', click Properties. Select 'System Restore' tab, uncheck the box before 'Turn off system restore')

3. Restart your computer

4. Go to http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp and then run an online scan. Let it disinfect your system. Once done, restart your system.

5. Go back to http://housecall.antivirus.com/housecall/start_corp.asp to confirm your work (that the system is now clean).

6. Once the system has been disinfected, go to http://www.windowsupdate.com and install the critical patches. Your log shows that you are missing the latest Windows XP Service Pack. This is important in securing ones' system. Kindly install the critical updates.

7. Last but not the least, re-scan your system using HijackThis and kindly post a fresh log.

I understand that 50MB or more is a PITA to download if you have slow connection but try your best to get them. It is sure slow but you'll be sure that you'll have a secure system. Unpatched system is scary to use nowadays :(

Or order the Windows Security Updates CD from Microsoft - it's free. The huge Service Pack 1 is included in the CD :thumb: - http://www.microsoft.com/security/protect/cd/order.asp

With regards to your new log:

Select:

R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Local Page = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\blank.htm

Close all browser and windows, except HijackThis then click Fix button
